I arrived at Card Capital, a sigh creeping past my lips as I realized Kai wasn't there yet.
I sat down at a nearby table, watching the clock. Tick, tick, tick.
Five minutes later, the doors to Card Capital slid open. I smiled at the sight of Kai, my smile diminishing quickly as I realized his expression was cold. He looked over at me prior to walking to the seat across from me, his cards in hand.
"How are you?" I inquired warmly.
"I'm fine!" He replied coldly, his voice sending chills down my spine.
It hurt to see him yell at me, and it hurt even more to know he was in pain.
"Kai, please... talk t-" I began.
"Enough!" He cut me off. The card shop fell quiet. He sighed, clearly annoyed. "Are you gonna battle me or not?" He demanded.
"I-" I mumbled, startled. "Y-yeah." I shuffled and placed down my deck nervously before drawing five cards. I glanced at Kai and saw he was doing the same.
Neither of us redrew, and after a long and awkward silence between us, we both flipped over our starters.
"Stand up, the, Vanguard."

"Damage check," I said through gritted teeth. I sighed at the result. "Liberator Sage, Maron."
Kai shut his eyes, looking down, his arms crossed over his chest.
"Did you have fun?" I spoke quietly, hopefully.
His eyes opened, his brow furrowed. "You think this is about fun?"
"No, no- I j-just wanted to know if yo-you enjoyed it. That's a-all." I stuttered.
Kai stood, his face emotionless, his deck already collected and in hand. He muttered, "I'm done here."
Speechless, I watched him walk out, the soft click emanating softly from his steps. My heart beat like a drum in my ears and I ran after him and called out absentmindedly. "Kai! Kai, wait!"
Not surprisingly, he ignored me, his silhouette fading from the card shop.
I ran faster, reaching out and grabbing his shoulder, breathless. "Kai! Please!"He turned around quickly, his eyes glowing with something I had never seen before.
Before my eyes, I saw the same face, but something was different. I saw fear in his teary emerald eyes. The usual determination was gone, replaced only with sorrow. His mouth tilted downward at the corners, a tear streaking his face.
"Kai..." I began, my fingers wrapping around his shoulder to comfort him.
"What do you want from me?!" he shouted, his voice breaking. "Aichi, please... I'm in pain!"
"I want to help you!" I insisted, my own eyes tearing up.
"Nothing will bring Miwa back." Kai stated, pain overwhelming his voice.
There was a long pause, and I stared down helplessly.
"That doesn't mean you can't be okay," I finally said.
"Aichi," Kai said firmly, backing away. "There is nothing you can do."
Pain overwhelmed me. I watched him as he began to walk away. "I'm sorry," I whispered. He stopped, silently. Eventually he began to walk away and tears streamed from my blue eyes and I began to drown in my confused sorrow.
"Come back to me soon," I whispered as I watched the final moments of his silhouette before he disappeared farther away from me into the scarred world.
