This Band is Back

Chapter 17

"So Julie what do you think?" Alex asked after they finished playing her bright.

"You guys are really good!" She smiled at them.  Their faces started to drop.

"So you don't remember anything new?" Luke asked.

"No sorry guys." Julie looked down at her hands which were grasped together.

"Maybe if you play with us it will come back to you!" Reggie suggested.

"Yeah please Julie?" Alex and Luke pleaded.

"Guys I just don't think I'm ready." She replied.  Just then Luke had an idea.  He started rushing over to the piano and looking through the papers.

"Luke what are you doing." Julie asked. 

"Trying to do what worked last time."  He brought her a paper.  "Julie your mom wrote this song and last time this song helped you play again." Julie gently took the paper reading it over.  A tear slid down her cheek as she read it.

"Julie? Are you okay?" Alex asked gently.

"Yeah, yeah I'm good." She brushed away the tear quickly and stood up.  "We can try again tomorrow, I just need to go be alone for a while."  She left the garage and went up to her room.

"Well that went well." Alex said sarcastically.  Luke sighed before sitting down at the piano.

Weeks went by with little to no progress in returning Julies memory. Each day that went by the guys grew more defeated.  Willie had been coming by to try and help Julie, but he was growing more and more anxious about when they would see Caleb again.  And despite Luke's best efforts the song Julie's mom wrote her didn't work this time.

"Thanks again guys for trying so hard, I just don't know if I'll ever be the same Julie you knew." She sighed before leaving the studio.  Luke clearly frustrated poofed out of the studio. 

"I'm gonna go hang out with Ray, I need a bit of cheering up." Reggie said before poofing out, leaving Alex and Willie alone.

Alex slumped down on the couch and put his head in his hands.

"Alex?" Willie asked worriedly.

"Its just... what if she's right, what if whatever Caleb did to her is permanent?" He looked up at Willie with tears brimming his eyes.

"Don't give up hope yet, it might just take time.  Maybe there is something specific that will trigger her memory."  Willie sat hesitantly down next to Alex.  He looked at Alex's hands which were clamped together in his lap fidgeting.  He placed a hand on Alex's hand and gave him a smile.  "I will always be here if you want to talk, or scream in a museum." They both laughed at that.

"Thank you.  And not just for this, but thank you for helping us get Julie."  Alex replied sincerely. He wrapped Willie in a hug.  They stayed that way for a couple minutes.  "Hey do you wanna do something?"

"Like what?"

"Go walk on the pier or something?  Maybe scream at the ocean, just anything to take my mind off everything." He gave him a weak smile.

"Yeah for sure, let's get going." They stood up and poofed away together.
