Yasmine's POV

I tossed the pillow case to the laundry pile at the corner as I mentally cringed at how soaked it was.

Literally dripping with my tears.

A soft knock on the door penetrated my thoughts as I grunted in annoyance.

I didn't want to see their selfish faces.

The person opened the door anyway.

''Please can you go, I don't want to see anyone,'' I mumbled as my congested nose prevented me from saying more .

''I would but my baby sis needs me,'' my eyes lit up as I saw Halima looking at me with a sorrow driven smile and her round belly protruding softly from her abaya as she peaked her head into my room.

"Hali!" I gasped as my hands flew to my mouth in shock.

I haven't seen her since her marriage.

''Sabri bri,'' she answered as I choked on my sobs.

I almost smiled at the name.

she always teased me about the name for reasons unknown to me.

''You've always been such a cry baby,'' she scoffed as the bed dipped under her weight.

Anyone in my place would do the same and add jara sef.

''Stop crying mana, it's going to be fine,'' she encouraged with a lazy arm draped around my shoulder.

''It isn't halima, not to talk of the rubbish Hauwa displayed today,'' I huffed pulling from her grip as her eyes widened at the use of her full name while I bit back the tears threatening to spill out.

''She just called to say she was staying at Jumai's house,'' Halima whispered in disbelief.

''If that girl brings a baby home, Abba will have her head,'' she thought out loud as I smiled.

It's going to happen sooner or later.

''I know what Abba discussed with you but you can't change destiny sabri,'' she switched topics as if she was taming a tsunami.

''This can't be destiny'' I murmured in denial as she pulled my limp body into a soothing hug.

''He's eighty three,'' I whizzed out and held up my fingers showing her the number.

Isn't he older than kaka?

And like she read my mind she answered with a nod.

''Subhanallah!'' I cried as my body shook with hiccups.

''On the flip side you're going to be a princess,'' she whispered as I laughed sadly.

''So I should marry a man old enough to birth Abba so I'll be a princess not even queen I die,'' I rebuked shrugging in disgust as she rubbed her belly absentmindedly.

''I can see this your mai gida( husband) is taking care of you hali,'' I complimented my eyes looking at her profound bump.

She bit her lip trying to stiff a giggle.

"He's evidence that man proposes but God opposes," she answered with a faraway look in her eyes as tears escaped mine.

Ya Allah is this how I'll end with a man older than kaka?

The thought alone repulsed me.

''You were promised to him from birth,'' Halima said breaking the deafening silence as I struggled to breath.

''Why- why me hali,'' my voice broke as she pulled me to her, my salty tears dampening her scarf.

''The worst part is that he wanted to do a blood convenant with you but Ammi refused,'' she sniffed as I felt my ear turn hot with anger.

Freaking pedophile.

''There's no running away bri,'' she concluded as she stroked my chest as it heaved with sobs

''Ammi agreed to this?'' I asked praying that she didn't betray me like this

''I really don't know but Abba did everything and after that Ammi ..."she trailed off knowing that waterworks
we're always associated with that topic.

It was like the universe wanted to break me at once,

First Sadiq and now an arranged marriage.

Was there no love in this world for me?

God still loves you my subconscious whispered.

''I'll leave you to think about this,'' halima said getting up and walking towards the door.

'' I'll be here through everything,''
she promised, squeezing my hand assuringly and walkinh out of the room.

My hero didn't need a cape.

She wore a freaking abaya.
