Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays <3

Just Wei WuXian teaching Lan WangJi how to properly enjoy snow! And both learning to love winter again through each other.

Unedited and very rushed... still couldn't get it done in time!

The first sign of winter came in the way his breath took flight like tufts of clouds. The Dying followed, blighting leaves and freezing flowers. It should have come as no surprise, then, when the Jingshi's garden withered, but Wei WuXian was still saddened the day he woke up to a wilted bouquet. Lan Zhan reminded him that the perennial flowers would resurrect come spring, and his sorrow was forgotten. He hated winter, but he decided to love winters with Lan Zhan many years ago in his first life.

"Brrr! It's so chilly," Wei WuXian wailed one day as they trudged through the snowy woods.

Lan WangJi said nothing, but didn't dither to part his gigantic winter robe, and with it presenting a warmed-up husband-shaped space. Wei WuXian was quick to nuzzle himself up against WangJi's side. A content purr sounded in his throat as the Lan cloaked their two bodies together.

"Wei Ying, why did you refuse your jacket again? Do you not like it? Shall I have new ones made?"

"No! I adore anything you give me, but I refused it because that way you'd have to share yours."

The Jade sighed. It was a weak puff of air from his nose that fell short in telling any whisper of ire. His husband was endearingly foolish and he loved every bit of it.

They made it to the rabbits just as the last threads of sunlights forswore the mountains. Divvying out their fruits and greens, both men mused as pink pea-sized noses quivered with excitement. They were soon up to their knees in hungry little beasts!

"Lan Zhan, if we don't hurry I fear they might rebel and eat us."

"Ridiculous."

The couple stayed far after dinner, doing nothing but standing and gazing across the pasture. Wei WuXian was fixated on a pair of rabbits—one white as the snow it traipsed through, and one black as its shadow. They leapt and galloped about, frolicking in their little winter wonderland.

Playing in the snow with someone... I've always wanted to... can I do that now?

Wei WuXian turned from the bunnies and grasped WangJi's face, suddenly harboring a jittery disposition. In all seriousness, he demanded, "Lan Zhan, play with me."

"..."

"What, haven't you ever played in the snow?"

WangJi blinked.

"I have never... played." His voice was adorably smothered by the bright red cheeks Wei WuXian squished, but it did little to ease the heartache of such words. Wei WuXian felt immediate guilt for asking the question despite his knowledge of WangJi's childhood. He looked down at his boots, and for a fleeting moment, he saw the tattered shoes that had held himself captive as a boy, the ones he'd become painfully aware of every time he watched the village children play. Perhaps his and WangJi's circumstances were different, but their grief was the selfsame.
