Wei Ying accidentally goes on a date.

"You what?"

Wei WuXian wasn't surprised when a man had approached him while strolling through Caiyi Town hand-in-hand with his husband. Although his name was polished of sin many years ago, there were still those who made it known the Yiling Laozu was not forgotten. He was used to being verbally accosted in the streets and he was used to Lan WangJi protecting him like a jade knight.

Wei WuXian was surprised, however, when he was offered a meal.

The man was handsome, but in an unremarkable way. Narrow eyes brooded over a pair of high cheekbones, and his ample lips seemed great for kissing. Even so, he was hardly worth a maiden's loquat. He regathered himself and declared once again, "I'd like to treat you to dinner tonight."

Lan WangJi gave a dissatisfied humph. He pretended to admire a butterfly that fluttered by on lazy wings, as if he had no interest in the conversation, but the arm he held around Wei WuXian's waist could not pretend. Lan WangJi pulled him closer than a paper's breadth and rested his chin on his head.

They didn't need a ribbon to consummate their marriage. The look Lan WangJi gave any who strayed to close to his husband was enough.

Wei WuXian knotted their fingers together and said, "Sure! It would be rude to pass up a free meal."

The man smiled. His nose blushed redder than a boy with a winter's cold. It was endearingly cute, in a way. Wei WuXian was reminded of his little freckle-faced juniors.

"Does the inn suit your tastes?"

"Absolutely. I eat there at least five times a week."

"Then... I'll see you there this evening."

Caiyi Town had many inns, being that it prostrated at the foot of the Cloud Recesses, but the inn was famed not for the comfort of its beds—it was its food that seduced people. Wei WuXian was a familiar face in the dimly lit tavern. He couldn't resist their spicy, spicy dragon noodles.

Of course, there was also the Emperor's Smile

Wei WuXian crowed, "I'll be there!"

They bid their temporary farewells, and he and Lan WangJi carried on with their walk. Their arms were buoyed together by the hand, swinging gently like boats tethered to a dock. Wei WuXian loved this. He loved domestic life. He loved how their hands fit together, far better than a sword hilt ever could.
