CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO: Nothing else could go wrong.
Natalie Cross
The scenery was breathtaking as Connecticut’s miniscule city lights still filled up the spectacular view. The breeze wafted through me as I breathed in the scent. Everything seemed to be going well today or so far. I wanted to enjoy every minute of it before something else goes wrong. Nate appeared with a cup of hot tea and I had my arms wrapped around me since it was quite chilly. He looked alarmed and took of his suit jacket and put it around me. I smiled and took a sip of my tea. Since we were out here I really wanted to tell Nate I was willing to forgive him about everything. I wanted a clean slate, but how come I feel like my chance has come and left? You were always the one. Those words he told me were the ones that gave me hope. “Beautiful,” he said his voice sounding dazed.
“Isn’t it?” I agreed. I shifted my gaze to him and noticed he wasn’t looking at the scenery, but at me. I began to blush. I fixed my stare forwards once more. “What did you want to talk about?” I wanted to get to the point. The dance was ending soon and I wanted this moment to last forever.
“How much I care about you.” Even if I told Justin, Nate and Hunter to stop fighting for me, Nate was the only one who actually still did. His words were different from the others; maybe it was because it came from him. The one I always loved. “You told me you could’ve loved me.” He turned to face me. I grinned and laughed. I suddenly remembered the time at Albertson’s party. He rescued me, he always did. The boy I could’ve loved.
“I care about you too Nate and that was the drinks talking.” He laughed. “I actually wanted to talk to you too,” I said truthfully. He looked shocked. I took deep breaths to try and calm myself. I was scared of telling him, of how he might react, but he just told me he cared about me, isn’t that a good thing? His green eyes looked at me seriously as his eyebrows arched probably wondering why my reply was taking so long.
“I’m quite afraid now, you’re not secretly married are you?” he asked jokingly.
“Yeah I definitely am. Did you know I’m also a widower, but guess who murdered who?” I winked at him and laughed a loud one. I couldn’t help, but laugh as well just seeing him smile and enjoy himself was enough to last me a lifetime. “Do you believe in second chances?” I asked him. His face turned serious and saw a small smile.
“Yes, very strong believer.” He said. “Some people deserve it, some people don’t.”
“Where do you think you lie on?” I asked and looked at him.
“I’m not going to say I deserve it, but I’m not going to say I didn’t deserve it either. It really depends how you feel about it. If you’re willing to forgive me I’m here to smile and always ready to have you back in my arms again.” He explained. My heart melted. I smiled as tears started to form. “Are you crying Cross?” I couldn’t help, but I just hugged him. He held me tenderly.
“I forgive you.” I whispered as my head lay on his chest. He removed me from his hold and searched around my face. He smiled. “I believe in second chances. I’ve finally realized that I needed you in my life. You were always there for me and I’m willing to forget about whoever was in our past.” I stated. His smile turned into a bigger one as it stretched further from his face. “I just need you to tell me those three words and I’m yours.”
“I love-” We were then interrupted by Talia and Samantha as they walked drunkenly towards us. I’m guessing the drinks were spiked, heavily I might add. Randy and Justin ran towards them as they caught them when they were about to fall. Justin looked at us, from a sudden happiness to anger or sadness. He blinked rapidly.
