(Casey)

I held Ky close in my arms as I comforted them from the still running anxiety attack from the encounter earlier. They were still shaking and crying, a mess by the looks of things, but they were feeling much better than they were then.

I asked them some grounding questions in an attempt to bring them back to reality as they hang onto me like a rabbit that was being held unwillingly, whaling still uncontrollably.

Ky had good reason to be triggered, but I didn't blame those college kids for not knowing... they learned their lesson now anyway. Surely they didn't know their checkered past... what their step father did to them.

I remember the first time Kyra told me about what happened to them, and how they awakened. It still made me sick to my stomach to this day.

I looked at Kyra in a mix of horror and pity, and then hugged them. "I'm so sorry he did this to you... and for years no less!" I said to them, and they nodded.

They had told me about the years of sexual and psychological abuse done by their step father, who did this to them and their mother. I couldn't fathom what they been through, it was just so horrid and inhumane.

"That's... not even the end of it..." Kyra said to me, crying hysterically still as their body seemed to tremble at the thought, and I went slightly wide-eyed at it, "when I turned 13 that's... that's when the rape began... he would come into my room some nights when my mother was out for the night shifts and force himself onto me. This happened multiple times and he would tell me to keep quiet about it every time, but on the night of my 14th birthday my mom was supposed to go out to another night shift but she walked in on my step dad forcing himself on me... he growled and almost beat my mom to death, but I awakened and knocked him out with my own bare hands..."

I looked at them, hugging them. "I'm so sorry..." I said to them, not knowing what else to say. Kyra gave me a sad smile, reassuring that I was alright.

"That man is now in prison for life for what he did... as for my biological father I don't know where he is... ah, como te extraño papa..." Kyra said, fantasizing what their dad might have been like before he left their mother and them.

Their mother was a Latina and their father was African American, but due to unknown reasons their biological father left when they were only 4. When they were 7 that's when their mother met their step father, a man they refused to associate with... and I can see why they didn't want to now; or ever again.

They also told me that their step father was part of a violent mafia group, and he intended to put their mother and them into human trafficking. However, he did not know that he had quite a special person in his possession that would've went for a huge amount in the black market.

However, that situation is another story for another day.

"Good... he should be in there for all the violence he caused you and your family" I said to them, and they smiled at me.

"Aww... thanks Cassy..." they said to me, calming down as they talked.

"No problem, just come to me if you ever need to rant and stuff alright?" I asked Ky, and they nodded.

That's when I knew that we were going to be good friends later down the line.

(Present)

Kyra sighed, taking a deep breath and managing to calm down after a few minutes. I looked at them and gave them a warm smile, and they smiled back.

"Better?" I asked them, and they nodded yes.

Suddenly I heard a knock on the door, not knowing who it was at first and so I ignored it. That was until I heard who it was, and then I opened it immediately.

"I came by to ask if you were busy, but then I saw Kyra wasn't feeling well... should I come back later or is everything okay?" Monica asked, seemingly concerned for Kyra.

"Y-Yeah... everything is fine Ms. Edwards..." Kyra said shyly with a smile, to which Monica chuckled a bit.

"No need to be so formal Kyra, just call me Monica. You are one year away from transforming you know" she said with a smile, and Kyra nodded.

"Sorry... just a force of habit..." Kyra said, Monica nodded as she understood.

"The past bothering you again?"

Kyra nodded, glancing away and looking down to which Monica went over and gave them a hug. Kyra was a bit surprised, crying a bit again.

"It's okay... you're not alone. I've been through similar things..." Monica said, a sad smile on her slightly tanned skin. She seemed more vulnerable than she said, but it was good that Kyra had another person to relate to.

"Really?" Kyra asked, shocked.

"Yeah... now enough about me, I have some matters I need to discuss with Casey. Sorry if I was intruding on anything" Monica said, to which Kyra nodded.

"Nah you're fine, I'll head out now. See ya Casey!" They said, and then they headed back to their own dorm.

I wasn't fazed by this visit since when I became a renowned technokinetic I've worked with a bunch of higher up Superhumans, so this was another one of those things.

"So? What do you want me to do for ya?" I asked her, chilling on the couch.

I should've declined.
