As you hurried down to the dungeons where the Slytherin Common Room was located, you couldn't help but overthink why Draco wanted to see you. Had he figured it out? Did he know about you and George? Even worse, did he know you were actually friends with the Gryffindors he hated so much? These overpowering thoughts were mixed closely with your pure admiration for George. He had saved you when no one else did.
Equipped with a small smile surfacing from your lips and an overwhelming urge to hide in an empty classroom, you eventually reached the common room and, hesitating slightly, pushed the door open.
As soon as you pushed it open the blonde wizard grabbed your arm hastily and pulled you aside. The room was completely empty and once he finished searching for a sign of anyone else, Draco looked down at you, his eyes laced with worry. You were just as worried as he appeared to be and returned the expression.
'Y/n we don't have much time', He began breathlessly as he once again looked around the common room, as if searching for someone specific. He quickly turned back round and looked at you again, his grip on your arm not getting any looser. 'I don't want the others to think I'm soft but I know exactly what's going on'.
You hadn't retained eye contact with Draco while he was speaking, but as he said those words you yanked your arm from his hand and rubbed it obviously. 'What are you on about Draco', you spoke coolly, keeping your facial expression bland and emotionless. He immediately rolled his eyes and sighed.
'Don't bother trying to hide it y/n. I know what's happening around me. In case you hadn't noticed, I'm a Malfoy. Not a Potter', he said simply and you felt your face muscles harden.
You were painfully aware you were trying to hide something from him, but you weren't going to give it up that easily. Your brain was constantly flicking through all the different outcomes of letting it slip, so you continued as you were.
'Draco, I have absolutely no clue what you're on about. I don't know what you're trying to say', you said stiffly and he huffed in frustration, running a hand through his hair.
Suddenly, a loud slam shook the door and caused the circular handle to bang heavily against it. You and Draco jumped in surprise and Draco frantically shoved you forwards, as if he were scared to open the door. Shooting him an 'are you serious' look, you reached for the cold handle and, twisting it to the left, it unlatched. You pulled it slowly towards you as Draco cowered from behind you and as you looked at the person standing in front of you, you felt your heartbeat thud heavily in your chest and then gently slow down. It was George.
'George?' you squeaked.
'Malfoy', he growled.
'Weasley?' Draco stuttered.
The three of you stood there staring at each other for what felt like forever, until Draco eventually broke the painfully awkward silence.
'What're you doing down here Fred', Draco spat in disgust, Fred's name rolling off his tongue as if it was a piece of dirt in his mouth. George looked at him judgementally and smirked slyly. 'It's George, actually, mate. I wanted to know why you wanted to see y/n because I don't trust you, and I think it's obvious why I don't,' he said loftily, staring dead into the shorter wizard's eyes.
'I literally wanted to ask her something, you filthy ginger prat. What did you think I was gonna do? Curse her?' Draco looked at you, back to George, and then folded his arms in annoyance. 'She's one of my closest friends'.
At this, George supressed a laugh and glared at him. 'Not much of a friend considering you didn't even check on her after she had that awful panic attack. Of all people I had to calm her down', he snapped. Draco lost his steely glare at George and looked at you in surprise. 'You had a panic attack?' he asked you quietly, reverting his eyes and looking at the floor. You nodded and an odd feeling of shame snaked over you - but you tried your best to shake it off.
'Tch, you didn't even know your "closest friend" had a panic attack. Wow, so much for house pride and that', George hissed at Draco and Draco took a step towards him, opening his mouth to argue. He didn't manage to though, as you stopped him.
'That's enough', you yelled at the both of them, and they turned in slight shock towards you. 'Just stop it. I'm so done with this', you sighed in exasperation and let your body lean against the wall behind you. George looked at his feet in embarrassment while Draco glared at him.
'Why is he checking on you anyway?' Draco urged, looking dead in your eyes. This confused you a little bit - wasn't that what he was going to talk to you about anyway? You looked at him with a puzzled expression and pushed yourself off the wall. 'Isn't that sort of what you were gonna ask me about?' you asked him uncertainly, and he looked as if he was thinking deeply about what you'd just said. Almost immediately you regretted saying what you did, and you could tell that Draco was slowly stringing the events together.
Eventually he looked down at you, then up at George, then pointed at you, then pointed at George. 'You two are... are dating?' he stammered, waiting for your response. When he saw you both nodding he breathed in deeply and rubbed his temples. 'I see'.
'You're gonna hate me now, aren't you Draco. Then you'll tell Pansy, who'll tell everyone else, which will completely ruin my reputation, then I'll get blackmailed and hated and-' you were ranting out of complete fear until Draco cut you off by yelling your name. George watched helplessly.
'Y/n, stop', Draco yelled at you, and you shut your mouth. 'I'm not gonna tell anyone', he finished quietly and you whispered 'thank god' under your breath as George grabbed your hand and pulled you to him, holding you tightly. This was what you loved about him - he could always sense when you were unhappy, or if something had triggered your anxiety - and he always knew what to do to calm you down. You'd worked yourself up, so you let a few tears sink into his Gryffindor jumper and tried to match your breathing to his to calm down the triggers. Draco stood there in silence and just watched you both. When George eventually released you from the hug, aware that you were okay, you gave Draco a smile of relief and stood back.
'Draco... what were you actually gonna ask me?' you disputed, and Draco rubbed the back of his head bashfully.
'Um. I was uh,' he paused and cracked his knuckles, almost as if he was embarrassed to say what he was going to ask you. After a while he gave in. 'Okay fine. I thought you were trying to get higher than me in Defence Against The Dark Arts and it irked me so I was going to ask you if you could help me with my Werewolf essay. I had no clue about you and Weasley.'
'Oh', George said quietly from the doorway. 'Sorry Malfoy'.
