"A tree-walker, hm?" The king questioned as he sat in his office, having been told by me.
After Ulysses had returned, she had informed me of Adrian's first encounter with a magical creature. "That's right. His Highness had defeated it quite easily, Your Majesty."
King Marlo wasn't aware tree-walkers were still alive. He, just like many oblivious people, thought the species had died out. It appears, however, that tree-walkers were just very good at hiding.
His kingdom was one of the safest due to its strong protection. Novaria was grand, it was deserving of an excellent security system. But because of this, Novarians were ignorant of how truly dangerous it is out there.
This naivety is what caused his daughter to slip away.
His Majesty thinks it's his fault that his daughter was taken.
But that's not true.
The Zedan Empire is to blame. They've always been our enemy and always will be. That is until we finally defeat them once and for all. And that conclusion will come soon, I hope so anyway.
Humanity must thrive, and the Empire must fall.
Marlo looked at me, giving me a soft smile, one that I have devoted my life to see. He chuckled lightly, asking me, "You really believe Adrian will save the day?"
That question was... difficult to answer.
"It's not that I believe, per se," I explained, tapping my chin curiously. Ulysses pecked at my hair, nestling her little head. Continuing on, I saw Marlo lean forwards more waiting for my answer, "It's more like he's our last chance. We have to trust that Adrian can do this."
I stepped over to him, leaning onto his well-furnished desk with my hands. Marlo looked at me, staring with those green eyes of his.
When I first met His Majesty, I had never imagined a human could have such eyes. Browns were very common, sometimes people would have blue eyes. Blues were common among royals. But green eyes were the rarest of all.
Marlo's green eyes were a surprise. His family, from my knowledge, were brown-eyed folks. His green eyes were, as some say, a blessing. Green eyes meant prosperity and good luck.
I guess Prince Adrian's family must be running with good luck. I've heard a couple of tales from Tavern.
Aside from their infamous line of green eyes, they're a well-off kingdom that happened to be small. Of course, everyone knows o the recent tragedies that had befallen them. A former king dying a heroic death and a king and queen passing in an unfortunate accident.
Marlo won't be like that.
I am his advisor after all. My job, and my role, is to make sure His Majesty has the best kingdom. The kingdom of a lifetime.
There was uncertainty in his eyes, but he trusted me.
Both he and I are the only ones who can truly support each other. No one else can ever help Marlo achieve the perfect kingdom.
"You are a king, Marlo. And I am your loyal advisor. Trust my word when I say, Adrian is the one who will bring back the princess."
It wasn't that we believed.
We were desperate.
There was no choice but to trust in Adrian. He was the last hope humanity has.
Once the princess awakens and marries the Emperor, the Zedan Empire will succeed and win the war.
That is what many foresee.
