Schweiden Adlers vs. MSBY Black Jackals is what was posted everywhere on sports channels. You couldn't believe you were going to play against Kageyama after all these years. You had always been close with him in high school, even dated for a while. But after graduation, you had lost contact with him. You and Hinata, however, still played on the same team: the MSBY Black Jackals.

You didn't know how your first game against him would go. You hoped that he would run to you and hug you like old times because you still loved him deep down. However, you didn't know if he'd be glad to see you or completely unfazed. Nothing could've prepared you for his actual reaction.

You entered the gym waving to your fans in the crowd.

"We love you y/n!!" they shouted.

"I love you too!" you shouted, smiled, and giggled a bit earning multiple people fainting and others screaming even louder.

Hinata elbowed you and motioned to Kageyama. You couldn't clearly see the expression on his face but you knew he was looking at you. You waved but he didn't. He turned back around and continued practicing with Ushijima.

"Hey hey hey!!" Bokuto shouted at the girls screaming his name. They all swooned over him.

You and Atsumu began warming up. You were another wing spiker on the team. You, Sakusa, Hinata, and Bokuto often rotated in and out. This kept all of you ready for all the sets. It let you have a little bit of rest between rallies which was much needed during five set matches.

Atsumu would set a ball up and let you spike it down with ease. Sakusa, Hinata, and Bokuto soon joined in with the four of you taking turns spiking.

The match soon started with you and Kageyama on opposite ends meaning you couldn't battle him face to face like you'd hoped.

Both of your teams were pretty evenly matched. The scores stayed neck and neck the whole time.

The first set : 22-25 - Jackals
The second set : 25-23 - Adlers

It was now time for the third set. The middle.

You were finally face to face with Kageyama, but he wouldn't make eye contact with you. An Adlers player served the ball, Sakusa received it, Atsumu set it, and you went up for the spike. Kageyama jumped to block you but you broke straight through his block.

It was at this moment that he looked directly at you. The only thing you saw from him was pure hatred. You and him stared at each other as you both landed on the ground. He broke eye contact with you and you stepped back unable to process his reaction.

"Y/n?" Atsumu asked. You didn't reply. You stood there with your mouth parted slightly and hands shaking. Hinata grabbed your hand making you step out of your trance.

"Are you ok? You just got the first point," Hinata said.

"I- uh," you stuttered out.

"What is it?" Atsumu asked.

"It took me by surprise."

"What did?" Hinata asked.

"The hatred in his eyes."

Hinata knew who you were talking about. He whispered in your ear, "I know you love him, but right now, I need you to hate him."

You knew he was right. The only way you could beat him was if you hated him. You continued to play making eye contact with Kageyama every single time you could. This way he knew that you were a better player than you used to be.

The third set : 17-25 - Jackals
The fourth set : 15-25 - Jackals
You won.

You stared at Kageyama after scoring the final point. You shook hands with him under the net never breaking eye contact.

"I'll win next time," he stated.

"I'd like to see you try," you replied.
