After a while, Carlos finally regained his logical thoughts, and became calmer and more collected. He was in the sitting room on the sofa, having tea that Evie insisted he drink to help calm him down. The young, confused man, now resting from his ordeal.
Doug had entered the room and stood silently, watching Carlos for a moment.
Carlos lifted his head from his steaming mug, and glanced at the son of Dopey now warily shifting his feet in the doorway.
Carlos lowered his eyes,"Say what you're going to say." Carlos muttered.
He released a deep sigh, preparing himself.
"Dude, that was really bad." Doug blurted out, sitting down beside him.
"I know, man. I don't really know what happened to me in there." Carlos continued to mutter, in a low shameful voice.
"I mean... really bad." Repeated Doug, still shocked at how Carlos attacked Hartley.
"Evil Carlos, is still alive in there somewhere--he's just buried, or at least he was." Explained Carlos.
"I never thought I would see you like that." Said Doug.
"Yeah, well-- I wasn't always such a good boy." Carlos quipped, darkly.
"I mean, I know that you're a villain and everything. But, seeing it, really seeing it-- I never even imagined that that side of you existed." Doug expressed.
"People see what they want to see. You know? I used to say that I was the perfect villain. Because of my young and innocent face, I could con anyone into anything. One look at me and people would think they were dealing with a weak and naive kid that they could prey on. They never even considered, that I was the predator." Carlos replied.
Doug listened thoughtfully at Carlos' dark description of his past.
"I think, you might be scarier than Mal." Doug stated, nervously.
"Right now, you're probably right. Mal has something to lose. While I, am a desperate fool." Carlos chuckled darkly, as he pat Doug on the shoulder and turned and walked to his room.
Doug had been with the VKs for the better part of two years. He had befriended them, and even fallen in love with one of them, but he never got what it really was to be a villain. He thought he understood, but he had no idea. Today he finally discovered what a villain truly is. A desperate, fearful, weak, and destroyed person. A person lacking hope and grasping at pain and suffering, because it's all they know. Thinking of this, Doug looked at Evie, and shed a tear as his heart ached for them.
Carlos laid down on his borrowed bed and blocked out all of his thoughts. He was exhausted from the catharsis of his breakdown. Dude joined him on the bed, remaining silent. The dog just wanted to comfort his companion. Carlos stroked the brown dog's coat, until sleep finally found him.
