It's been four months since the disaster that was Vaizel. Two of the strongest members in the fight against the Ten Commandments were gone. The Dragon's sin of Wrath, Meliodas was dead and the Fairy King, Harlequin was missing, his final fate completely unknown. It was a strategic and moral catastrophe for the Seven Deadly Sins. Merlin, Escanor, and Ban had taken station in Liones to protect it against the inevitable invasion from the Demon clan, Gowther was put in prison due to suspicion of being in league with the Demons, and Elizabeth and Diane had set out in the boar hat to gather information on the Demon clan's doings across Britannia.
Nighttime had fallen over the Boar Hat as it was nearing closing time. Diane was hard at work serving tables with her signature upbeat and energetic attitude. As she was doing her job, she heard a patron sitting at a table behind her start to try to get her attention.
Patron: "Hey cutie! You got a boyfriend?"
Diane's smile faltered a little, but she still managed to turn and give the man a cheery look.
Diane: "Yeah, I do have one."
Patron: "Oh yeah? Well where's he at now?"
Diane: "He's..... away. On business."
Diane looked down at the floor, trying to conceal her continuously cracking mask of joy. The patron got up from his chair and walked over to Diane, grabbing her by the waist and pulling her close to him.
Patron: "Well then I guess you must be pretty lonely. Why don't we find a motel together and I can help you with that loneliness."
Diane calmly pulled away from the man's grip and started to walk back to the bar.
Diane: "No thanks. I'm fine. By the way, I think everyone should leave. It's closing time."
With the help of Hawk, Diane managed to shoo all of the drunk patrons out the bar. Once the tavern was empty. Diane could finally rest her face. Her cheery expression morphed to a depressed sadness as she walked back over to the bar and sat down with a mug of beer. As of late, Diane had been drinking noticeably more than she usually did. Both Elizabeth and Hawk knew it was a coping mechanism.
From behind the bar, Elizabeth grabbed Diane's mug and put it away.
Diane: "Hey! I wasn't finished with that."
Elizabeth: "Diane, I don't think it's really all that good for you to be drinking like this. Why don't you get some sleep, okay?"
Diane: "*Sigh* Fine."
Diane got up from the bar and headed upstairs to Ban's old room that she had been using. After all, Diane found it weird to still share the same room with Elizabeth since that's where Meliodas' lifeless body was laid. Diane entered the room and closed the door behind her. Once she had complete privacy, Diane put her back against the door and slowly slid down to a sitting position while hugging her knees close to her body. The full force of all the emotions Diane had bottled up hit her all at once. Even to Elizabeth, Diane didn't dare to show just how much emotional pain she was really in.
Slowly, Diane opened up a pocket on her shirt and pulled out a small patch of cyan cloth. That was it. That cloth from King's sweater was all Diane had left of him. Ever since he had gone missing, Diane carried that cloth with her everywhere she went. Diane held the cloth in her shaking hands as tears started to well up in her eyes. A small whimper escaped Diane's lips as she attempted to conceal the deep sob that was threatening to reveal itself. Diane knew King never liked it when she was sad so she always tried her best to stay happy despite the situation.
