If he could remember something from the previous days, he might not have got involved in such trouble. The only thing he was able to recall from the day before was that he had a fight with a weird guy in a bar. Now, Colt, a young guy with red, short hair and a pair of old jeans, was walking alone in a desert under the burning sun having no food nor water at all. He'd been walking for at least three hours. The howling wind and the unbearable heat made him so dizzy and sleepy. He desperately wanted to give up but he knew he have to continue walking. Another two hours were filled with monotonous walking over the sand. Despite the poor visibility, he could barely spot a small tent in the middle of the desert. He knew that would probably end up really bad for him, but he approached the tent slowly and tried to look inside. It was, indeed, a bad decision. No sooner did he got closer to the tent, than a young woman burst out of it, pushed Colt down and pointed a shotgun to his chest.
"Who are you?" Asked the woman.
"I'm Colt, who are you?" He tried to hide his fear, but, in fact, he hadn't been more scared in his life before. At least, as far as he can recall.
"Who brought you here?"
He'd rather make up a crazy story about how and why he was there, but he was too tired to think about it.
"I don't know. I don't remember actually. I woke up here this morning."
Upon hearing that, the strange woman helped Colt get up. He quickly reckoned her age to about twenty years, like him. She was wearing torn jeans and a yellow bandanna in her neck. Her hair was purple and she had it in pigtails.
"I'm Shelly. " She introduced herself, "Sorry for trying to blast your face, but I wanted to be sure that you're not mind-controlled."
"Mind-what? What is this place?" Asked Colt. He was kind of relieved when she told him she wasn't going to kill him.
Suddenly, they heard a deafening explosion behind them. Shelly quickly pushed Colt into the tent and closed his mouth so that he wouldn't scream. Two strange men appeared out of nowhere. The first one was holding a shovel. He was tall and his skin was pale, like a vampire's. The second one was short and Colt wasn't sure if it was a human or not. It looked like a crow.
"No time to explain!" Replied Shelly and got out of the tent. Colt had no idea if she had a plan or not.
"Hey Mortis!" Shouted the woman to the tall man.
"Finally! You surrender!"
"Will you ever learn that I don't ever surrender without a fight?"
Colt realised that it wasn't Shelly's first time to meet those two people.
Shelly gave a death stare to Mortis, grabbed her gun from her belt, cocked it and rapidly aimed for her rival's forehead. To her disappointment, Mortis picked up his shovel faster and with several quick moves towards her, he floored his opponent and threw her shotgun to the ground. Colt had to take a vital decision; either get out of the tent, try to save Shelly and probably die, or stay there and die later when found. Surprisingly, it took him some moments to make up his mind and eventually blindsided Mortis with a quick punch in his face. Obviously, it wasn't enough to take down a vampire, but it did its job and gained him and Shelly some time. Colt heaved Shelly to her feet and picked up her shotgun. Both had started to run away from Mortis, when Crow grabbed three daggers from his pocket.
"You will go nowhere!" Shouted Crow and approached our heroes.
He threw his poisonous daggers to Shelly. She tried to dodge them, in vain. Two of them hit her in her face. She fainted and fell down.
"No!" Exclaimed Colt and took hold of the girl's shotgun.
He cocked it and glared Crow menacingly. His palms started to sweat. Bang! The bird was down! It was the first time shooting someone in his life. He immediately dropped the gun down. He didn't know if he actually killed him or just injured him. He went closer to his collapsed body to check. To Colt's relief, Crow was alive. The man went back to Shelly. He took a hold of her by her waist and threw her over his shoulder. It was uncomfortable at first, but it was the easiest way for him to run to safety with her. After a while, she came round. Colt put her her down gently. She was panting heavily. The boy managed to calm her down. The injury wasn't too serious, but the daggers were poisonous. Colt put a band-aid on her left cheek. He knew he had to do something to prevent the venom from spreading throughout her body, but he was all alone. He panicked and hopelessly carried her again. They ran another mile when Colt could finally spot some scattered buildings. He approached them. It was a small town in the middle of nowhere!
