15 YEARS EARLIER
Pam arrived at the hospital alone. She had always been alone. She had survived as a kid alone, she had been an exceptional mechanic alone and now she was going to raise her daughter alone, since the father of the child left her in the lurch two months earlier. She entered a clean room which contained a bed, some machines, a couple of chairs and a large window. The walls had a depressing grey colour, as if the room wasn't created for mothers who were giving birth. Pam laid on the bed. Pain was clear on her face and her stomach was aching so bad. A doctor entered the room with two other men. They were all wearing medical masks and gloves and a yellow suit with a big star in the middle.
"Pam, it's time. I want you to take a deep breath and push." And she did as he told her; she pushed as hard as she could, but nothing happened. She screamed and pushed again. "This is not good at all!" He shouted since the baby still hadn't appeared.
"What?" Screamed Pam. She had started to worry more than before. Her teeth gnashed with the effort it took to push.
"Pam, push harder! Pam!"
"Ahhhhhh!" The head of the baby had finally came out! "Hello Jessie!" She burst into tears as the doctor gave her the baby.4 YEARS EARLIER
Pam's house wasn't big. It didn't have to; the only people who were living there was she, her daughter and a little robot she had built for help. It was very cosy though. One could easily feel all the love and care inside it. Pam and Jessie had just arrived from the beach.
"How was the sea?" Asked Nani. She was a small and cute robot with a big lens. She was also wearing a green bracelet with a gear.
"It was amazing!" Exclaimed Jessie excited. She was an 11 year old girl with red hair and pigtails, a light brown hat, a pair of blue glasses and the same bracelet as Nani. "We took some photos!" She added and showed Nani some pictures of her and Pam swimming, playing and eating ice-cream happily on the beach.
"We also bought a brand new battery charger! And this time it's rechargeable!" Said Pam to the robot delightfully.NOW
Time was passing blithely and calmly until this very day. Pam had gone to the junkyard to collect some scrap for a new invention while Jessie and Nani where home. The former was in her laboratory and the latter was cooking.
"Here you are!" Said Nani and gave Jessie her breakfast. It was her favourite: ham sandwich and a cup of apple juice.
"Thank you Nani!" Said Jessie. She had always loved Nani as a sister. Suddenly, a loud crack was heard from the living room. At first, Jessie assumed that it was her mother who was getting in the house with all the scrap. Crack! Crack! The noise didn't stop.
"I'm going to check what's happening." Said Jessie in an anxious tone. She went to the living room and tried not to make any noise. There were two men trying to jimmy the lock of the front door. Jessie hid behind a sofa. The more they were prizing the door, the heavier her breath was becoming. My mum will arrive at any minute to stop them, she thought to encourage herself. She heard another crack, louder than the others, and the door broke down. Two men with yellow suits with a big star in the middle got in the house.
"Where is the girl?" Shouted one of them.
"Let's just look for her." Said the other. They walked inside the house and started to break everything that was on their way.
"Girl, we will find you wherever you are! Make it easier and come here on your own!" Jessie wasn't going to surrender to them. She went back to the laboratory as quiet as possible and told Nani what was happening.
"Stay here, I will stop them!" Nani's robotic voice gave hope to Jessie. Nani went out and prepared for fight. With three sneaky angled laser shots, she took down of the burglars. If she had been faster, she would have struck the other one down, but as soon as he noticed her, he quickly aimed with a gun for her lens and shot her.
"No!" Shouted Jessie when she heard the sound of the bang. She grabbed a blaster from the laboratory and went to the living room. Her tears were falling on the floor as she was shooting the man who damaged Nani. Zap! Zap! Zap! Three blasts, however, were not enough. The man took her weapon and dropped it down.
"Please... Stop! What do you want?" Jessie was crying. She was weak and helpless. There was nothing she could do. She started to scream in case someone would find her, but it was pointless. The kidnapper taped over her mouth, tied her up and put her in a body bag. He carried her to his car and threw her in the truck.Pam arrived home with a ton of scrap for her daughter. Little did she know about what she was going to find at home. Or maybe what she was going not to find. When she saw the broken door from a distance, she hurried and got inside.
"Jessie? Nani?" She shouted, "What the hell is that?" Exclaimed Pam when she saw the body of a dead man in the floor of her house.
"Pam, where are you?" Nani asked. It was clear that her voice was full of fear, although it was the exact same voice as always. She couldn't see anything because of her damaged lens. Pam went closer to her.
"I'm here." She exclaimed "Where is Jessie? Where is my daughter?" She screamed. She burst into tears. She couldn't breath; she didn't want to continue breathing anymore. She could feel her heartbeat; every single pound made her chest hurt. She looked angrily at the star of the suit of the body. She was determined to find her daughter. Whatever it would take.
