Horrorfell!Papyrus: Chief

Swap!Fallen: Fallen Stars (Star)

Pepper didn't realize that the surface was so beautiful until he got out of the Underground with his family. Gaster was back, he'd found his soulmate, and he was content.

Then he discovered the Human holiday of Christmas, and realized it was similar to the Monsters' old tradition of giving gifts to each other at the end of the year for Gyftmas.

Now, unlike the other versions of them, Star had to learn what both Gyftmas and Christmas were, as they had torn a hole from their imprisonment in the Void to their imprisonment in the Underground. However, they did remember a tradition from their native culture.

The Feast of the Winter Festival. The best thing was, human food was so similar to Tac food that they just had to infuse it with magic to make the feast.

It was perfect. Chief had informed almost all of the monsters that there was to be a feast, and, well, none of them could really turn down the offer of free food.

All Pepper was interested in, though, was seeing what Star had planned.

They had told him to get dressed in certain clothes, and though they were similar to the ones he usually wore, Pepper noticed one main difference between his hoodie and the newer one Star had made.

The new hoodie had a crest of some kind on it. A golden human soul, perched atop a rose and crowned with some sort of sun symbol, one he remembered hearing from Star was the crown representing all Tac gods. According to them, that symbol was in every crest of every god in their universe. And, now that he was technically the god of love in that universe, he realized, the crown had to be in his crest too.

There was also a crown, the same as the sun-symbol-crown on the crest, that Pepper just brought with him. How was he supposed to put it on?

Star looked the same as ever... no, screw it, they looked slightly better than they usually did. An almost identical copy of the crown Pepper held floated at the back of their head, the rays of light cast upon their fluffy black curls. When they noticed him staring, Star smirked and hurried over to help.

"Hi, cutie." they said, taking the crown from Pepper and putting it on him. Suddenly, everything seemed a lot brighter. Was the light from the crown shining through the hole in his head? He giggled involuntarily, a side effect from his injury.

"Heheh-- Hi, babe."

Star blushed, awkward as they always were. They never really did well in social settings, Pepper realized. "So, uh," they squeaked, taking his hand and reaching up, wings fluttering, to kiss Pepper's cheek. "You wanna go eat?"

Of course he did, Pepper thought, and dragged his mate to the waiting feast.

Barely an hour later, and both of them, as well as many of the monsters, had already eaten their fill. There were the occasional moments when a stray monster would get up and get one more of something, but most were curled up on the cliff where they had seen their first sunset, the place Star had chosen to hold the feast.

They had been telling Pepper about the Festival where they came from, and how it started, but not in the way most people would tell a story. Star spoke as if they remembered the story and was telling it from memory.

Pepper was confused until they mentioned them and Kitstorm, their Kitstorm, hanging the little plaques with their names on them from the Borderland tree.

That was when he realized just how old Star was, and how many legends they had lived through.

They were still adorable when they were sleepy, though.

aw thanks snas

god this one was so long. i love this au.

So, I should explain. During the Winter Festival, all the Tacs coming of age that year will take plaques made of solid magic with their names carved into them. they'll travel to the Borderland Tree, a huge tree on the edge of both the Forest and the Erni Territory (Ocean) and hang their plaque on the tree by a ribbon left by previous generations. When they die, their plaque will disintegrate as their magic is returned to the earth.

At the top of the tree, there are two plaques, from Fallenshine and Kitstorm, that will never disappear because they're immortal. The other gods hang their plaques on the branch below theirs, and Vite returned when Klara took him as a mate to hang his plaque on that branch as well. Even though he's not a god, he's still immortal.

now if you'll excuse me, i'm gonna go back to reading countryhumans crap.
