Stanford creates portable Parkinson's medical technology that allows remote monitoring, obtains an accurate mentality based on symptoms, and enhances the care of patients..
Parkinson's has twice as many patients across the globe compared to a quarter of a century ago but the means of tracking and treating the condition are still primitive. Conventionally, clinicians use a subjective rating scale and few face-to-face visits to check up on the patient, and this leaves many patients without adequate care.
A team at Stanford Medicine now had a breakthrough in medical tech: a wearable and portable device combined with a smartphone framework enabling their patients to monitor their Parkinson's symptoms at home. The device has a name, Quantitative DigitoGraphy Care, and the system is based on measuring fine motor motions, which are taps on the fingers and converting them into clinical data that are shown in real-time.
