Harry finds himself face to face with Malfoy in the sixth floor bathroom, reminiscent of their previous encounter. But this time things turn out differently...

When Harry Potter returns as a Hogwarts eighth year, he is no longer the boy he once was. Instead, he is a man who has lived through too much.

"The Gryffindor common room was all warm light and bad card tricks when the owl tapped the window-sleek, official, black ribbon on heavy cream. They have to keep it from their friends make it seem like like are just dating, and next September their 'engagement' goes public.

Harry often stared at Malfoy in the Great Hall. He wasn't quite sure why he did it anymore. It had started out in their early years as suspicion, but as the years past it quickly became habit. Take a bite. Respond to conversation. Look at Malfoy. It's just what he did. After the war, when everyone had worked hard to amend what was broken, Harry and Malfoy had forgiven each other. So why did Harry still look up after every bite? The answer to that became abruptly clear about a week into their eight year. And neither of them were anywhere near ready for it.

Draco hated his body. He hated his body now more than he ever had when he was going through the vomit-inducing experience that was puberty. Somehow this was worse. What could go more wrong? His whole body was aching, his parents weren't around to explain this whole Veela Inheritance thing, Granger was the only person who could tell him how to do this, and he was in love with Harry Potter. Nothing was going his way.

Harry Potter is a little bit confused and a lot in denial. And even more an idiot. Luckily, the truth hits him like a ton of bricks (with a little help from Pansy) before his entire 8th year is ruined. Or, Harry Potter is in love with Draco Malfoy, and he really thinks this should bother people more than it does. Eighth year at Hogwarts is going to be boring. That's what Draco Malfoy thinks when the Wizengamot makes attendance a condition of his pardon. After all, after letting Death Eaters into the school, failing to kill his headmaster, and being forced to serve a homicidal madman, how could finishing up his education *possibly* be interesting? Answer: a coveted Transfigurations advanced study position, Minerva Mcgonagall's surprising fondness for him, thestrals, tea with Hagrid, tutoring Harry Potter, Granger and Weasley's excessive PDA, and the perplexing nature of sleight-of-hand double-dates with Harry, Luna, and Ginny. And then, of course, there's righteously indignant (if misinformed) Weasley, Draco's own insecurities and flair for dramatics, and a long-suffering Kingsley Shacklebolt. If I can work in tie-switching and Great Hall relationship reveal I will, because those are some of my very favorite tropes.

A few months after the war Draco reached out to Harry to apologize and thank him for speaking for him and his mother during their trials. Draco, Blaise, and Pansy were eventually accepted into Harry's friend group. Now they are returning for their eight year at Hogwarts. What they don't expect is to find out that a wizard from the US transferred into Hogwarts to complete his last year as well. Ships: Drarry (x reader), Romione, Bleville, Linny, and I believe that's it.

"Do you ever think about the future?" Harry asked, staring into the flames. Draco sighed, leaning back in his chair. "All the time. But it's hard to see past the mistakes I've made." Harry turned to look at him, his green eyes filled with empathy. "We all made mistakes, Draco. What matters is what we do now." Draco met Harry's gaze, a flicker of hope in his eyes.
