"Never judge a book by its cover" Sometimes if you do, it might backfire

It's October 3rd, 1915. I walk into my pre-k class. Maybelline, the makeup brand, just came out. It was everywhere, haunting me. Everywhere I looked there it was, I couldn't escape the wrath of this powerful brand.

I think I was possessed when I wrote this lol. This piece is a very raw and honest look into how depression affected me. I would be honored if you took a moment to digest my story. What it means to be strong is subjective to a person's experience. After years of pretending to be strong and okay through life's up and downs as a young, Black girl, a devastating breakup sends me into a whirlwind of depression and anxiety. Intense feelings and thoughts send me on a dark path I never thought I would travel. I suffer inside until I'm finally brave enough to reach out for support from my friends and family. Their overwhelming support and compassion lead me to getting the help I need to begin my healing and recovery journey. *** I am thrilled to be working with Maybelline to help bring awareness to Anxiety and Depression that many of us deal with - especially since the start of the pandemic.
