Lemontree Aragona was conceived on June 5th in the future. She is the sixth generation of the Cornucopia, an exclusively bred class of people that live in Nova Leviathan that once was Russia until the Nuclear War. For these children, there was no time before that war, that was the beginning of them and the end of the past.

As many of the other enslaved girls, Micha, a Handmaid, is only wanted for her fertility. Ranked above many of the others but also hated and envied for her beauty her life is reduced to who has more power and can have her... In a near-future chaotic world where religion, oppression and pollution rule; Micha will need to make the decision of accepting her life with her new master or gain his trust and escape to a free world. This is a story about a girl traveling through her teenage year trying to navigate her way and make good choices. This is a story that will follow her in the many years she'll have to come of her adolescence. Not every story has a happy ending they say, but if it isn't happy, then that's not the ending. Okay, so fast forward 4 years... I don't think I'll be writing this story line into a series. I really do hope you guys enjoy it though.

When I woke up, it was dark. I felt squished. Mommy was close, but we were moving back and forth. Swish, slosh. My foot felt stuck, I wanted to move it. But mommy said, "Shh." Mommy said, "Please baby, go back to sleep." Then, Mommy started to hum our song. "By and by down the river, by and by up the road, by and by over the mountain, baby and mama rode."

Even when I was young I knew I did not belong. I came out ahead, on top of the class, but my teachers would make me fail for it is unheard of any girl being smarter than the boys. Our society is based upon our four male leaders. We have five sub sectors in which all but one is run by one of the four leaders. The last one, though, is run by a women. The four leaders know of her, but do not see her as a threat, till I came of age.

A short story (500 words) inspired by Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale." In the near future, rations are no longer used as a method to conserve food.

A scared young mother was born into a small imprisoned building of horror and desperately searches for her babies and her own mother she was forcibly separated from while trying to navigate her emotions and those of the fellow prisoners around her as figure out what is the meaning of the suffering they are subjected to and if the light of hope she dreams about will ever fall upon her.
