Merlin was devastated when Arthur died. She didn't think she would ever be happy in the same way again-and she wasn't. But Merlin found something much more important. You see, she had been lost ever since Kilgharrah told her she was immortal. She wandered, unsure of her place in the world, until 500 years later, when she traveled to the so-called "New World." There, she met a family. She grew close to the parents, but even closer to the children. She loved them as if they were her own-especially when their real parents turned against them for what they had become. But Merlin loved them anyway. She always would. And they would always love her, always and forever.

Merlin is still technically a citizen of Essitir, and the new regents decide it's time he served his own kingdom instead of Camelot. The Knights know of Merlin's magic, so does King Arthur. They all try to find a way to free Merlin without causing a war. Mostly the POV of Arthur and the Knights to show their worry and concern over Merlin's well-being. I ship Merwaine, but a nice touch of Merwaincelot added in.

Merlin is acting weird, more weird than usual, he's quiet and withdrawn. Can Arthur find out what's wrong?

Merlin felt the golden light fade from his eyes as he looked to Arthur, who was standing mere meters away from him. He didn't even have to look at the King to feel the expression on his face. No sooner had he looked to the other man; Merlin had frozen on the spot. It was as if the world had stopped at their feet and that he and Arthur were the only two people standing in it. OR Merlin reveals his magic to save Arthur's life in the midst of a battle. Wracked with fear for Arthur, he runs away, and Arthur finds himself unable to let Merlin go.
