In 1967, Elaine inherits her wealthy estranged uncle's estate in Maze Hill, London. Elaine, a young teacher recently fired, decides to embrace this opportunity to take a break. The house, appearing synonymous to a castle, is older than most know, built by a Lord a long time ago, abandoned after a tragic incident. With 6 bedrooms, library, day room, winter and summer gardens, attic and a cellar, standing tall and inviting in the middle of an urban woodland and yet no creature crosses into its territory. None except Hugh, a strange but kind ruggedly handsome man. But is his kindness only a game? Is Elaine safe in his hands, tucked away in the grand house? Are these nightmares only dreams? Is Elaine safe in the bosom of Maze Hill House?

My name is Mary Katherine Blackwood. I am eighteen years old, and I live with my sister Constance. I have often thought that with any luck at all I could have been born a werewolf because the two middle fingers on both my hands are the same length, but I have had to be content with what I had. I dislike washing myself, and dogs, and noise, I like my sister Constance, and Richard Plantagenet, and Amanita phalloides, the death-cap mushroom. Everyone else in my family is dead. Four seekers arrive at a notoriously unfriendly pile called Hill House: Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a "haunting"; Theodora, the lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena. But Hill House is gathering its powers-and soon it will choose one of them to make its own. First published in 1959, Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House has been hailed as a perfect work of unnerving terror Public domain in Canada.

Fan fiction prequel to "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson, taking place 70 years before it. This is just a section I've completed so far, which would go somewhere before the middle of the story.

Okay, so for English class we were told to write a narrative story relating to the story called "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. I highly suggest reading that first. It is a short story that doesn't take long to read at all. (If you have read it, continue reading) My narrative is about my perspective on if either myself or my parents had won the 'lottery'. Again, it is not very long, it will all be in one chapter. I turn this in tomorrow, but I also thought it would be fun to show you how I wrote my narrative. If you have read the original story and then this one, please tell me what you think! I'd really appreciate it!

This is the story after The Lottery by Shirley Jackson ended. What will happen to the village? Will this kind of annual rite come to an end? What will happen to Tessie? Please give me your feedback in the comments! Credit Image: mathewbalanlay.wordpress.com
