The flames of Golothaer burned a sickly green tonight. From the high balcony of the Grand Temple of Lolth, Menzoberra Zan'Rae watched the city writhe beneath the cavern's ceiling, its spires and bridges shuddering with the cries of battle. Below, the faithful of the Spider Queen clashed with the cult of Ghaunadaur, slime-slick fanatics wielding oozing whips and dripping blades. The air reeked of acid and smoke; the clash of steel echoed like a ceaseless drumbeat of doom. Behind her, the sacred doors groaned open. Rodella, her eldest daughter, entered with a child clinging to her skirts - a girl with hair pale as her grandmother's and eyes still wide with disbelief. "Mother," Rodella said softly. Her voice was hoarse, raw from smoke. "It is done. The gates are ash. House Zan'Rae is no more."

It has been centuries since the downfall of the evil King Luth, but things in Triliad are far from peaceful. The kobolds in the north are growing bolder, striking out at the nearby villages. Tales of orc packs randomly looting merchant carts and needlessly attacking patrols of soldiers around Arrowglen grow numerous. Hobgoblins roam freely across previously protected land. And in the Evergreen forest, home of the woodland elves, trouble is brewing. Varis Galanodel, an elvish archdruid, has sworn an oath to the natural world, an oath he puts above all else. So when the forest he cherishes so dearly starts dying, Varis sets off on a quest to find the source of this sudden decay and stop it. Unbeknownst to Varis, an ancient evil is stirring, one that no one could possibly remember. The enemy is much bigger than anyone could have foreseen, and it falls unto Varis to stop it...or the entirety of Triliad will fall.

A series of short works about a half-drow named Talaste, a Menzoberranyr raised to worship another demon lord besides Lolth and who was suddenly orphaned and forced to fend for herself in the Braeryn with the help of another orphan. Events in her life forced her to flee Menzoberranzan, and she briefly helped a town on the surface before stumbling into the land of Barovia. Lolth, the Drow of the Underdark, and other characters created and published by WoTC belong to them and only appear in this work under fair use.
