In the lands of Egypt there are two kings and a Pharaoh. The two kings are rival thieves. They've been trying to beat each other for a long time. Pharaoh Atem has been watching, amused by their antics. The Pharaoh has been unusually cruel lately, taking out his frustrations on his High Priest, who is also his younger brother, Yami. When one of the thief kings is captured trying to save his own younger brother, a series of events unfolds, changing all lives involved...from the Pharaoh to the thieves. Tragedy ensues, but can redemption be had?
As the pharaoh's spirit is finally at peace, young Yugi is incomplete. His heart is fragments of what it once was and no matter how hard he tries, the pieces just won't fit back together. However the mysterious Shadi returns and tells Yugi of a duel taking place in the spirit world. The winner gets to return to the real world. In order to stop yami Bakura from returning and taking over the world with the power of the millennium items, the pharaoh must win the duel. That means he will be stuck in real world forever, but is that so bad when you have your other half beside you?
