I flipped through the pages of the scrapbook, tears filling my eyes as I saw my younger self forever engraved in the pages. Oh what I would give to freeze time right here, suspended at 16, forever young and free.
It's true what your parents tell you, life can change in the blink of an eye. Those people that you once made the best memories with, one day they're going to be strangers and that's all those crazy times are going to be, just memories of the person you once was.
It seems that somewhere along my timeline I lost myself, lost the smiley carefree girl laughing up at me from the pages.
The final photo at the back of my scrapbook was the last straw for me. I looked at that one image and knew straight away what I had to do. I have to find myself again.
I have to go back to the start.

My life is like the concept of a cheap umbrella, when you least expect it, all protection from the storm seems to dissolve and collapse in front of you. Like the melting point of an eruption in a volcano, where as if all the self hatred and disgust you’ve built up over the years is on the urge of pouring over and destroying everything in its path. My history is something I’m not surprised isn’t in the text books because not only does the phrase ‘being in the wrong place at the wrong time’ describe me as a person, it describes my life. It’s like a cycle that keeps repeating itself. Picture this. I’m walking on the train tracks and the only way I can save myself is to let go, to fall, so I take a step forward in the arms of faith only to be knocked back down again to square one. And that’s where I stayed. So forget the history text books, you won’t find loss of trust and love in the context page, because history is a load of useless bull that no one will ever need in life. Have you ever had one of those terrible yet annoyingly pivotal moments? You know, that monumental fragment of time that flips everything you have ever known. That plot twist second that completely takes you by surprise. The one just before the storm hits and everything goes to hell. Yes? Because you see, that moment happens to be my whole damn life. It wasn't always like this though. I used to have a pretty mundane existence, happy to just get good grades and be around my friends. God I wish I could get that simplicity back, I'd never complain it was boring again. But I know I'm not going to ever get back my old life because well... I died. (Kinda) But I woke up. And I was thrilled, beyond grateful I wasn't dead. But then I realized that there was one minor detail that had changed about my reality. I was given the chance to live but it turns out I woke up as the villainess in an otome game my friend used to be obsessed with - Kingdom of freaking Hearts (I added the freaking in there for effect, it's just Kingdom of Hearts) Where, for the record, the villainess only has two possible endings 1) execution and 2) getting exiled. So Fate was like, "Don't worry, I'll save you. Here's a chance to live" and then was like "psyche, screw you. You're still going to die but I'll let you suffer a little first." So now, if only to annoy Fate by proving it wrong, I am determined to survive. I can and I will if I play by these simple rules: 1) Befriend Heroin 2) Avoid Aryn Edwards at All Costs as well as other capture targets And 3) Be the top student at the academy and become an invaluable asset to my Kingdom so I become indispensable, thus unkillable. I'm determined, stubborn, persistent and I will live passed 16. Fate made a big mistake setting me up to die. Since it threw this plot twist at me, I figure I'll return the favor. I'll be the biggest plot twist Fate never saw coming...

I was kicked around like trash on the streets. I was the book that nobody could understand or read, but without a care, they were quick to rip out the pages. I screamed for attention, but time after time, I was ignored. Nobody noticed me, so I made myself at home in my own shadow. They say there's light at the end of the tunnel -- I searched and searched for it, but it could never be found. Therefore, I lost hope as I hid in the shade and endured what seemed like everlasting pain. The little hope I did have was snatched from my arms. My baby brother was my life, and they took my glimpse of hope away. Home. Is that a word? Maybe for a family of some kind, but for me, I never had a place to call home. I moved from place to place. Unstable foster care, fighting for my life in group homes, barely surviving in detention centers, and running away from being mistreated as I made many benches my temporary home. The only thing that I was familiar with was a black plastic bag containing my dirty rags. I am too young to know what it feels like to survive. These are the cards life has dealt me and I am not meant to win; however, I easily lose without trying. It is hard for me to find peace. I am paying for my mother's reckless actions. I am trapped in a world where the sun has died because I am unable to feel love. I am unable to dream. Sorrow is my aura, and the sadness hugs me. My eyes are closed shut by the barbed wire fence from my eyelashes as they prohibit tears from falling. I am damaged. When will the morning come? Did the sun put up a fight last night, like I do every single day? If I can survive the day, I know the sun isn't dead. One day, I will awake to a glorious sunrise. Until then, I hope my brother keeps blowing his pinwheel, and I will keep making wishes with every dandelion I come across.
