Christmas is a festive time, though for young Clara, it is a time of heartache. As she watches her sister, Louise, dance with her handsome suitor, she desires that same simple and beautiful dance. Watching this display with interest, Uncle Drosselmeyer presented Clara with a beautiful, though distorted, soldier like any she had seen-a Nutcracker, as it is called. However, what she didn't understand then was that by keeping him, she would have to face the nightmare that has haunted her since she was a young girl, listening to the horrific tale of the clockmaker and his nephew.
