Annie Johnson was 19, living with her stepdad, who gambled away anything of value that they owned. She dropped out of high school last year to help take care of her grandmother, and she was relieved to have an excuse to run the hell out of there. She was never like her grandmother. Strong, brave, and independent. Mamaw Pearl hated people fussing over her and caring for her every need, but after her fall, she couldn't help herself anymore. One brisk morning Annie received a dreaded phone call that turns her life upside down. She is sent to Hawkins, Indiana, where she hopes to get some answers to a letter that was left to her. There are many things in Hawkins that Annie wished she never knew.. But that was until she meets Eddie Munson.
