Joe Scay, a single man, takes in a Mer, the other sentient species on Earth, as his daughter.

Taisha, a warrior mermaid, dreams about another realm. "Neat spear." "What do you mean you don't know what stars are?" "Wanna know a secret?" A consistent character in her dreams keeps appearing. "Take this." When the character gives Taisha a compass, and that compass is still with her when she wakes up, Taisha will have to question the reality of her dreams, and her lineage. Written for the 2021 MerMay Story Contest by Mertastic Contests.
