Prologue:

January 12, 2014

"Go take a nap, son. We will wake you up for dinner," Joshua spoke.

"But DAAAD I'm not *yawwwwn* TIREEEEED!" Despite his protests, Aang shuffled over to his snd his parent's tent off to the side of the dig site, got into the closest sleeping bag, and promptly fell asleep. Aang's parents were archeologists, and they took their 8-year-old son to some of their more mundane digs. Thus, Aang also fell in love with fossils and became fascinated with dinosaurs at the ripe old age of 3. Some of the other adults at the dig site were previously teachers (don't question it), so the kids that came along to the digs would not be behind on learning when we went to a real school.

"Aang, get up! We must leave now! I have the bare essentials, but there is no time for you! Come with me now!" I was awoken by Gyatso, my favorite person in the whole camp beside Momma and Papa. The first thing I noticed as I came to my senses was Gyasto's face above mine. The second thing I noticed was the heat. Oh, the heat. I quickly got out of my sleeping bag and ran outside to a most horrific sight. Everything was in flames. Orange-red bursts of heat were everywhere. Then I saw the bodies. All around me were the burning corpses of my friends and camp members. Two bodies in particular stood out to me. They had gold badges signifying they were the leaders. No. please no. This can't be happening. But it was. Right there in front of me were Momma and Papa. I suddenly felt drained of all of my energy, my body filled with dread as I dropped onto my knees and let out a blood-curling scream.

"NOOOOOOO!" Feel the wind picking up around me, as if I was in the eye of a tornado. White started to crawl from the edges of my vision. The last thing I remember before losing consciousness was Gyatso holding me and muttering

"I will keep you safe, Av..." Then, everything went black.

Hey guys, this is my first try at fanfiction. I have school and crap so I will probably not update super often (sorry). This is going to be a modern au highschool fanfic if you couldn't tell yet. Please leave suggestions and don't be rude. Hope you enjoyed this first bit. Have a good day
