Chapter 2: The First Day

Aang's POV:

BEEP BEEP B-

I smacked my alarm clock before the third beep sounded before groaning and opening my eyes. I got up and walked over to my dresser and looked at the clothes I picked out for my first day of high school. I put them on then looked into the mirror. I wore an orange t-shirt with three swirls on the front symbolizing the air district, along with light grey joggers, matching grey Nikes, and my signature arrow pattern beanie before looking out my window. The sky was grey without a hint of blue, everything covered in clouds. When I opened the window, I instantly recognized the scent of rain on the way. Oh, what a wonderful day! I sigh before losing my window and check the clock. 7:30 am, and school starts at 8. Crap! I run down the stairs before grabbing a banana and my bookbag. Right before I run out, Gyasto, my adopted dad, called out to me,

"Aang, don't forget your lunch! My friend Iroh told me his nephew constantly complains about the cafeteria food, so I figured you might want something homemade."

He put my lunch into my bookbag before we said goodbye.

"Good luck and make some new friends!"

"Alright. Bye, Uncle!"

"Goodbye, Aang"

With that, I ran out the front door before opening up the garage. I jumped into my 2018 white Camaro. Over the summer, I had it custom painted with a brown arrow that spanned the entire length of the car. I started the engine and made my way to the new school.

I pulled up to the parking lot and got out, looking at my new school as I did. I couldn't help but marvel at the size of my new school. It looked to be 5 stories tall with a football field to the left and a track to the right. I watched as hundreds of kids poured into the school like it was black Friday, trampling each other in order to get to the front doors. I was so shocked by my surroundings that I didn't notice someone running into me until it was too late. I fell to the ground with a grunt before looking up at who knocked me over.

Katara's POV:

BEEP BEEP BE-

I smacked my alarm clock before the third beep sounded before groaning and opening my eyes. I got up and walked over to my dresser and looked at the clothes I picked out for my first day of high school. I pulled them on before tying my hair into a ponytail and clipping on my mother's necklace; I had worn it every day since that tragic event. Sighing at my old memories, I looked into my mirror to make sure I looked OK. I was wearing a sky blue shirt with the water district symbol on it, a matching pair of skinny jeans, and dark blue converse before looking out my window. The sky was grey without a hint of blue, everything covered in clouds. When I opened the window, I instantly recognized the scent of rain on the way. Yay! I love the rain, it's one of my favorite types of weather. Knowing my idiot brother, he probably "forgot" to set his alarm last night. I walked to the kitchen and filled up a glass of nice ice-cold water before walking to my bother's room with full intent to dump it on his head. I opened the do- WHOA. Man, the smell never gets better. I pinched my nose against the smell of B.O. mixed with what I could only explain as every type of spoiled food combined and poured the water onto his head.

"I'M UP! I'M UP! I'M UP!" he shouted before toppling off the bed, still wrapped in his bedsheets. By then, I was rolling on the floor laughing. I mean, who could blame me? He looked so stupid. I checked my phone for the time before telling him,

"We're leaving with Dad in 15 minutes if you're ready or not." I then walked out of his stinky room, shutting the door behind me. Only a few moments later, he walked out fully dressed and ready to go. I've got to admit, I'm kind of jealous of how fast boys can get dressed. Not like I'd ever tell him that. His ego is big enough already. As we walked to Dad's car, I couldn't help but be nervous. What if people thought I was ugly? Would I get bullied? What if I failed classes? What if everyone hated me? Despite all this, I couldn't help but be excited too. I could make new friends, maybe be popular, get good grades, and hey, who knows, maybe even get a boyfriend. I hopped into the car and my father drove us to school.

-le time skip-

As dad pulled into the parking lot and we hopped out, I couldn't help but be surprised at the sheer size of my new school. It was HUGE! It covered the entire block, including the fields and parking lot. I was snapped out of my thoughts by my Dad.

"Have a good day kids! Make some friends, and don't get in trouble!"

"Okay, Dad," Sokka and I chorused

"Bye"

"Bye"

As we walked towards the entrance, I kept on looking around, amazed at everything there. There were so many kids, each of them a potential friend! EEEEE! Me not paying attention was probably why I ran straight into someone, falling on top of them with a squeal of surprise. Fully ready to yell at them for knocking me over (even though I ran into them), I looked up, and my words died in my throat.

Aang's POV:

I think I forgot how to breathe the moment I looked into their eyes. Her eyes. Oh my god, her eyes. They were simultaneously the calm of the night sky and the vibrance of the ocean, sun tickling the surface making it shine beautifully. Despite knowing it was rude, I couldn't stop staring.

Katara's POV:

My breath hitched as I stared into their eyes. His eyes. Oh my god, his eyes. They managed to hold the intensity of a storm cloud and the grief of someone who has lost too much at the same time. I was so captivated, I didn't notice how long I was staring at him.

Hey guys, it's almost Christmas day for me (that's tomorrow), and I wanted to get this chapter out before then. I will probably not update on a schedule, but I can tell you a few things that will determine how long until the next update.

How much motivation I have

If I'm on break

I just want you to know, while telling me to update may motivate me a bit, I want everyone to understand that I will be working on my own time.

Hope you enjoyed it and stay tuned for more.
