CALLIE'S POV:

Scott and Stiles quickly grabbed Derek from mine and Lydia's lap when we got to the animal clinic, once they grabbed him the ran inside, Lydia and I following close behind. Stiles pushed everything Deaton had on a metal table onto the floor, Lydia and I both raised our hands up to gently set Derek's head on the table when the boys laid him there, "Wow," Deaton said as he stared down at Derek's young face.

"Wow? Wow as in, 'I've seen this before and I know exactly what to do,' kind of wow? Because that's the kind of wow we were hoping for." Stiles said from beside me.

"I think you might be overestimating my abilities." Deaton said.

I stared down at Derek, my brother, I grabbed onto his hand, "He's cold. Really cold." I said as I stared up at Deaton.

"Do you think this is permanent?" Scott asked as Deaton touched Derek's other hand, checking his pulse as well.

Deaton took a small flashlight and opened one of Derek's eyes, "I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate. This is well beyond my experience."

"So what do we do with him?" Stiles asked, I watched as he casually looked down at my hand still holding Derek's.

"Until he wakes up. Probably not much. It might be best to leave him with me. He'll be safe here."

"You mean from Kate?" Stiles asked.

"If she's alive and she is what you say she is, she won't be able to walk past that gate." Deaton said.

Lydia pulled a blanket up so it covered all of Derek except for his face, "Why would she want to do this to him?" she asked.

"Knowing Kate, it's probably for a reason that won't be any good for anyone but her." Deaton responded.

"And bad for everyone else." Stiles said, Deaton gave him a small nod of the head, and I watched as Stiles rolled his neck around.

"You guys should probably go home. He doesn't look to be in any danger. So maybe the rest of you should get some sleep? It is a school night... And you all need to start taking care of your own lives again." Deaton stared at each one of us.

"Someone should stay with you." Scott suggested.

I let go of Derek's hand because it was far too cold for me to hold anymore, Lydia picked it up, "I'll stay." we all turned and looked at her, "My grades are fine... Despite missing a few classes."

"I'm so not okay with this." Stiles said, I glanced up at him as well as Lydia.

"Guys, go."

"No." Stiles said shaking his head slightly.

Lydia looked over at Scott, "Text us if anything happens." Lydia nodded her head at him, then smiled at me as I went to follow Scott.

"Nope, still not okay with it. Not going anywhere." Stiles said, Scott and I each grabbed one of his arms and pulled him towards the door, "Alright, just 'cause you're stronger.." Stiles mumbled as he turned around and walked on his own.

We dropped Scott off at his house and that's when I looked down at my phone and saw the time, "It's 1:30am, you're dad's going to kill us." I shook my head, laughing slightly.

He rubbed his face and then let his hand gravitate up towards his hair, "We just have to be extra quiet and let him know in the morning that we came back from the camping trip late because of traffic," he nodded his head as if he were agreeing with himself. I nodded my head at him and stared at the road, "You okay?" he asked me. If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if I was okay in the past few weeks, I'd be rich.
