baekhyun was the last to wake up out of the two of them, he was a little upset at the fact that chanyeol had moved away and his head was no longer rested on his shoulder but he knew he shouldn't let it show.

he wondered why chanyeol had let him sleep for so long, he guessed it was because he wanted the morning to last a little longer before they parted ways.

"morning." baekhyun spoke up, catching chanyeol's attention who was currently searching through the only backpack between them.

"hey," the taller put on a smile, "here, i want you to have these."

baekhyun took the clothe of berries and plants, "what about you?" he furrowed his brows, "won't you need this?"

"i've got some, i'll be fine." chanyeol confirmed, "i know what to pick."

"alright," baekhyun replied with a sigh, "so when are we doing this? right now, i suppose?"

chanyeol frowned, "you just woke up... what about breakfast?"

baekhyun chuckled slightly, "i'm not that hungry right now, aren't we pretty low on that stuff from the cornucopia?"

"i hid the most of it at the raspberry bush not far from the stream," chanyeol quickly replied, "so when you're away you can go get some."

baekhyun didn't get the chance to utter a thank you or a reply when chanyeol immediately voiced out the main concern on his mind, "i'm going to miss you."

"i'm going to miss you too." baekhyun pursed his lips gently, he didn't want reality to sink in, the reality which was he wouldn't see the male again after this because the reason they were currently splitting up was so they wouldn't kill each other; so someone or something else would do the job for them.

chanyeol looked down at the ashy ground with a small sigh, the two of them splitting up was now finally happening. he knew this was it, that it was the last time he'd see baekhyun again.

he didn't want it to be. he wanted it to be just like the woods, where they'd meet up again, that there was always tomorrow to look forward to.

he was frozen with surprise when he felt arms wrap around him but he didn't hesitate on holding the male, returning the embrace. they both sat like that for a while, their bodies entwined with one another, the only noise around them was the faint chirping of birds and leaves rustling in the warm breeze.

"we're gonna be fine." baekhyun spoke up, he didn't know why he said because he wasn't exactly sure if they would be fine, he just needed to say something encouraging at the moment.

he closed his eyes, smothering his face in chanyeol's good shoulder. he was worried about him, how he'd hold up with his wounded shoulder but he knew chanyeol would be fine; or he just told himself that to feel better.

he was the first to pull away but chanyeol stopped him and only held him tighter, "chanyeol," baekhyun let out a deep sigh, "you need to let me go."

after that, chanyeol loosened his grip, baekhyun pulling away from their embrace. his heart hurt at the sight of chanyeol's teary eyes. he rarely saw chanyeol cry, the male only did if he was really upset about something and this made it even more difficult.

"don't cry," baekhyun mumbled, bringing his hand up and cupping chanyeol's cheek, his thumb gently stroking his skin, "if you cry, then i'll cry and i've already cried so many times in here."

"i can't help it," chanyeol sniffled, "i don't want this to be, it's not fair."

"i know," baekhyun eyes stared at the district 7 boy pitifully, "but we know it has to be done."
