the train station was flooded with reporters, baekhyun was glad he bit down the tears after his family left because he knew his crying face would've been aired throughout the districts and everyone would've seen it.
taeyeon was still crying though, she let out soft whimpers as she walked beside baekhyun into the train, her long blonde hair sheltering her face from the cameras.
the train was even more luxurious than the small room he waited in for his family, he ran his slim fingers against the velvet couches that sat before the big flat screen television; the small box that he called a television was practically nothing compared to this.
he slowly sat down on one the couches, clutching onto the plush cushion beside him. the horror of it all was still so fresh in his mind.
he didn't care about taeyeon or the presenter of his district, her introduction was brief and proper, her pearly teeth smiling as she told them her name. wendy. baekhyun never did care for the presenter who called out the names of the fallen tributes of his district each year.
the two girls both sat down at the dining table filled with all types of food from a selection of different meats, fruits and vegetables.
baekhyun hadn't seen so much food in his life.
once he knew they couldn't see his face he let his tears well up in his eyes, his face buckling as he fought back the sobs in his throat. he stared out the window as the train zoomed off, the district he once knew being left behind along with the people he knew and the memories he had.
his eyes lingered on the rolling hills and trees in the distance, his lips trembling as he remembered the boy from district seven, the boy who would probably be waiting for him tonight, wondering why he wasn't there.
he quickly composed himself once the television quickly turned on, his eyes flickering to the screen rather than the window.
he didn't listen to the start, it was another message from the capitol; about the start of the games, the tributes, how excited everyone was. he sat in silence, his expression full of disgust, his eyes filled with detest as he glared at the screen.
his expression soon contorted into hopelessness as this year's tributes were shown. the tributes from districts one and two clearly weighed a lot more than baekhyun did, his stomach twisted at the sight of their determined expressions; their viscous grins plastered on their proud faces.
they were like rabid dogs in cages. waiting and growing more impatient and as soon as those games started, as soon as they were set free they could do anything they wanted, they could finally show off what they'd been training for their entire lives. baekhyun's eyes lingered on the boy from district two, he was extremely tall, nearly as tall as chanyeol; if that was even possible.
he could only imagine how pathetic he looked on stage compared to them, with his baggy clothes that practically drowned him and made him look skinnier than he already was.
district 7 rolled around, causing baekhyun to frown even more, his eyes scanned the crowd as if he could possibly find the big eared giant that he had befriended in the outskirts a couple years ago but he couldn't find him.
the girl that got called up had short black hair. baekhyun think he caught her name, it was chaeyoung or something along the sort. baekhyun looked down at his hands, they were still shaking, the shock only just wearing off. he felt nauseous, he didn't know if he could manage eating anything right now.
his head quickly shot back up at the screen, his eyes frantically searching the screen, his brows furrowed with concentration. he couldn't of heard that right. it couldn't be true, it couldn't be possible.
