(Slight angst)

Oliver

Jason didn't get it. Of course he didn't. He never would, at least until he read the words Oliver had carved into his floor. He was pretty sure he sank the knife down deep enough to scratch the wood floor beneath it, but Oliver wasn't sure. Being a son of Mercury, Oliver was fast, and in less than three minutes, he was back at Jason's door. Taking a moment to compose himself, he stepped through the already open door and into to mini training arena to see Jason holding the knife in one hand, slumped against the wall, eyes shut tight. At first, Oliver panicked, wondering if he was alright, but then Jason opened his eyes and sat up straight again, looking at the box Oliver was holding.

"This is yours. You decide what to do with it. Fixing it will take some work, I'll tell you that." Baffled, Jason stared at him as Oliver threw the large wooden box at him, causing it to crack open, its contents spilling out. Oliver didn't bother seeing Jason's reaction, instead, he turned and sprinted down the street, looking for anywhere secluded where he could be in peace.

Jason

With shaky hands, Jason shifted through the box's contents. In it were photographs, notes, and other things that symbolized his friendship with Oliver. Jason spent over an hour just looking at it all before carefully packing it all away, along with both daggers and putting the box into his closet. Unsure of what to do now, Jason found himself knocking on Reyna's door. Looking annoyed, a disgruntled Reyna answered it, looking surprised to see Jason there.

"Jason? What's wrong? You look......unwell." Stepping aside to let him in, Jason walked in and crumpled on the couch for a few seconds before sitting up, his hand between his knees, hands on the back of his neck.

"I messed up." He mumbled, not explaining any further. Jason felt the couch dip down a little as Reyna sat down beside him, and felt her body heat as she shuffled closer.

"Tell me, what happened?" Being praetor, Reyna could be pretty commanding, and get people to do things they didn't want to, which, in this case, luckily applied to emotions as well. Though his head was still down, making it look like he was talking to the floor, Jason slowly started to explain. Before she knew it, everything was spilling out, and Reyna, being the dutiful girlfriend, hugged Jason as he said it all.

Time skip to night

Jason was lying on Reyna's couch, his hands resting on his face. He'd been in that position for hours, drifting asleep every few minutes but waking after a few more. Reyna had taken care of his praetor duties, seeing as he was in no fit state to do them himself. The 'loss' of his friend shouldn't have affected him this badly, but Jason felt like half of his heart had been torn from him. For so long Oliver had been with him, his loyal friend, the joking prankster, standing with Jason through everything. But Jason hadn't stood with him. Jason had lived more years of his life with Oliver than without, and not having him as a friend anymore just felt.....wrong. Horribly wrong. It was almost worse that Oliver wasn't dead or anything, he would still be here, be a painful reminder that Jason had messed up horribly. He wanted to go to him, say he was sorry, that he'd do anything to have him back as a friend. But he couldn't.

Fear. It was an emotion that Jason had become quite familiar with, he was scared that one wrong command, one wrong move, and his hard work to become praetor would be gone. One wrong order would send his friends to their death on the battlefield. One wrong action, one wrong word and he would lose his wonderful girlfriend. This was a different kind of fear though. Jason was familiar with the fear of losing something. But with Oliver, there was hardly anything left to lose. He wasn't quite sure what he was afraid of, but Jason couldn't bring himself to go find Oliver and apologize. He just couldn't. Internally, Jason was being torn apart. He hated himself for not even noticing he ignored his best friend.

How? That was the one of the many questions Jason had been asking himself the past few hours. How had he not noticed? How had he just lost his best friend? How could Jason be scared of such a simple thing like apologizing? How could Jason have let this happen? How could Jason forget his best friend? How could Jason be so stupid?

Why? Why was Jason so scared of something so simple? Why couldn't Jason just apologize? Why had he let this happen? Why hadn't he noticed? Why was he so stupid and blind to this problem?

"ENOUGH!" Jason yelled at himself, shutting off his thoughts. "Shut up shut up shut up SHUT UP!" At this precise moment, Reyna came in, finished with the day's work.

"Jason? Are you.......talking to yourself?" Reyna prodded him, and he gave a muffled groan, rolling onto his side; the first movement he'd had in hours. Grabbing his shoulders and shaking him, Reyna was going to sober up her boyfriend, he might as well have been drunk considering how 'off' he seemed.

"I really messed up didn't I." His arms now limp by his side, Jason hung his head, angry at himself. "I shouldn't be this upset." Realizing she'd maybe been to rough with him, Reyna softly kissed Jason in an attempt to make him happier.

"I agree, you shouldn't be this upset, but there's no point in feeling sorry for yourself. Jason, I don't want to be rude or mean, but I'll lay out the truth for you. You need to either apologize and get it over with, or you let it me and continue with life. I love you, and seeing you sad is not a good sight. Plus, this isn't just about me, or Oliver. You're praetor, the legion needs you." Gently planting a kiss on his forehead, Reyna stood up. "Goodnight Jason." Throwing him a blanket and pillows, Reyna walked off to her bedroom, shutting the door and flicking off the lights.

It was clear she meant for him to stay here for the night, so Jason clumsily adjusted the pillows and laid down, exhaling slowly through his mouth before closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep.

(Sorry it's so short and not very Jeyna-y! I've just been really busy, hope you get that. The next one will also most likely be quite short, but the seventh chapter will be at least 2000 words.)
