Amara was laid up in the Healing Room in the castle. She had time to think as the magic worked on fixing her body. The dwarves were all going to die if she did nothing. Bilbo would die as would Frodo. These adventures would kill all she had come to care about if nothing was done. The last evil demon would return for that golden ring. It is said dragon fire can burn anything. Amara decided to steal the ring from Bilbo and destroy it. The arkenstone was another problem but she needed answers for that solution to even become a possibility. Balin and Dwalin came in with extremely serious looks on their faces. Amara knew that this was a confrontation that she was not looking forward to.
"We need to talk, Miss Baggins." Balin said straight forward
Dwalin leaned against the wall with his battle axe. He was intimidating but Amara was simply calm. Even though she ached, she managed to try to sit up and Balin, always the gentlemen, helped her.
"I can't tell you everything, Balin." Amara said softly
"I've heard of the Gods Champions. I never thought I would live to see the day I got to travel with one. You were sent for a reason though. How close am I to the truth?" Balin said gently
Amara looked at her lap and clasped her hands. Balin began to look afraid as the truth dawned on him. He fell to his knees and Dwalin ran to him.
"Balin! What's wrong?!" Dwalin demanded down beside him
"Who? Which one?!" Balin demanded in desperation
"What?!" Dwalin demanded and looked between Amara and Balin in concern
"I won't let it pass. The future is different now. I won't let it pass." Amara said with a tear running free
Balin raced to his feet and grabbed Amara by her shoulders much to Dwalin's shock.
"Which one lass?!" Balin shouted
"All of them! You all die! Is that what you wanted to hear?!" Amara demanded just as loudly
Balin let her go in disbelief.
"You all make it to the mountain, you all reclaim the throne, but you all die before Thorin can so much as sit on it." Amara said loudly before becoming hysterical
She had been thinking of this for over 30 years. How she would save them? What could she do? Finally the damn holding her together broke. Amara was sobbing mess.
"Do you want to know how you all die? I know how. I see it every time I sleep. I've seen it every time I closed my eyes for the last decade. The first to die is you Dwalin. You save Thorin as he goes to the Peak. You brought down hundreds of orcs before your body simply couldn't handle it anymore. Balin dies with Dori, Nori, and Ori in a cave which the orcs bring down on your heads. Your bodies are never found. The others die on the battlefield. Fili is killed by the son of the white orc. Thorin is forced to watch as is Killi. Killi loses his mind and charges the orcs. He kills many but ends up killed by the same bastard. Thorin sacrifices himself to kill the white orc. He dies in my arms. I beg him to stay with me, but he leaves to join Mahal." Amara rants loudly
Balin tries to stop the hysterical girl as Dwalin simply looks on in horror at what the girl has to live with seeing every night.
"NO! No you demanded to know then you will Gods damn listen. Bilbo and I are the only ones who survive but the new king of the mountain chases us away and blames us for the deaths of the Company. We are labelled as traitors by not only the dwarves but by our own kind because we hadn't let the Thain know we were leaving. We ended up banished and stayed in Rivendale. We died of broken hearts. Our mates dead and we could never follow. I failed the Gods and was punished for it. I was never reunited with Thorin." Amara sobbed
Balin and Dwalin were extremely pale but comforted Amara. Balin was racked with guilt. Dwalin equally so. They had thought the worse of the girl but in truth she was being tortured every night with these visions.
"What can we do?" Balin asked
"I need to speak with whoever knows the history of the mountain. I need to know why Mahal is so angry with his children. I don't understand what started the gold sickness in the leader of the dwarves." Amara stated
"Okay what do you need to know?" Dwalin asked
"Is the arkenstone the only way to claim the throne? Has the arkenstone always been there?" Amara asked
"No the arkenstone was found in the heart of the mountain and was so beautiful that the kings of the past have ever since used it as a beacon of their reign." Balin explained
Amara looked thunderstruck.
"The heart. The arkenstone was the heart of the mountain. Your people found the arkenstone and not realizing what you found you took it. The people then began to decline. Your birthrate went into a steep decline right?" Amara asked
"Yes." Balin said hesitantly
"Dwarves can feel the stone as hobbits feel the flowers and earth around us. We can feel the life in the trees and flowers. You can feel the life in the stone. Our people would find each other silly because of how we are. The gods though watch over us though like a parent and made sure to give us homes. The hobbits and our Shire. The dwarves and their mountains. Your ancestor found the heart of your mountain and stole it. The mountain was dying without its heart. Mahal was offended and punished his children by taking away their fertility but still the heart was not replaced. The dwarves were then cursed with the gold sickness. The dwarves will continue to suffer until the stone is returned to where it was found." Amara predicted with glazed eyes
It was like someone was putting the information in her head. Amara was following the lead. Balin and Dwalin believed that Amara was seeing the future.
"Would it save everyone?" Dwalin asked
"Yes but there is a traitor amongst your kin. Who would have been next in line if something happened to Fili and Kili?" Amara asked
"Dain but he wouldn't." Dwalin said suspiciously
"His advisors would. They always were the power hungry type who believed Thorin shouldn't be king." Balin said
"Okay we have an idea of who the traitors are. We have to solve one problem at a time. First the mountain then making sure we all live then Thorin as king  then traitors." Amara said before swaying slightly
Balin caught her and laid her back as Dwalin straightened the pillows and blanket.
"You have done marvelously, lass. Let us take it from here. You have time yet." Balin whispered to Amara
Amara for the first time went to sleep with no nightmares. Balin and Dwalin left the room silently and nearly shouted when they saw Thorin leaning on the wall. Judging by his face he heard everything. Balin and Dwalin went ahead and talked with Thorin. Thorin was stuck on one fact, that Amara was his One. Thorin believed he would never find her. Amara was everything he could have hoped for. She was a beautiful woman who could hold her own in battle. It certainly was a blessing that she was a Champion of Yavanna and now a savior sent by Mahal. Thorin listened as Balin and Dwalin debriefed him. Balin didn't mention what Amara had foresaw about Thorin and the boys, and thankfully Thorin came in after that breakdown. Dwalin decided not to mention it either because he knew if Thorin knew he wouldn't react well.  Balin, Dwalin, and Thorin went back to the other dwarves and slept praying that these upcoming weeks with the elves would go well.
