My nerves were on edge as Nicholas opened the throne room door. I could hear it creaking as if it hasn't been opened in years.
I looked ahead and there was a throne with someone sitting on it. The figure was wearing a black hood and had a scythe in his hands. The hood made a shadow over his face, but I still saw the bony hands that held the dangerous weapon.
I held my breath. He was dead. It was no mistake that his hands were a part of a skeleton. I heard armor rustle behind me. Nicholas was still at the entrance of the throne room. He had bowed down in a sign of respect.
"I have brought the princess, My Lord." Nicholas told the skeleton. How could he?!
"Why would you bring me here?! To a skeleton that was once my father! Is this some sick joke to you? Maybe you really are Salem's father, because he's just as heartless as you are!" I yelled at Nicholas and all he did was bow in silence, "Screw you. Filling people with hope then crushing it with your lies! I would tell you to burn in hell, but you already are. I'm out of here."
I was about to walk away, but something made a sound behind me. I turned and saw the skeleton with the black hood standing.
"That's enough now, Viper." The skeleton said in a demanding tone. I could feel his power radiating off of him. I couldn't breathe. My father is a skeleton, to be more precise, the Grim Reaper.
"You were alive this whole time?" I quickly turned to Nicholas who was still bowing, "I'm so sorry Nicholas, I was just so angry. It's no excuse for what I said earlier. I am truly and utterly sorry."
"You are allowed to stand now." My father's deep voice echoed around the room. Nicholas stood up without any sounds of pain, but I could tell it was hard for him. I looked over to my father who just stood there watching him. That boiled my blood.
"Give him food and rest." I demanded to my father. His cloaked head turned towards me. "As you wish. Daughter of Heaven and Hell." He said.
Daughter of Heaven and Hell. I stared at him. My father was this skinless creature of the Underworld.
"Why don't you have skin?" I asked curiously. I wasn't disgusted by it for some reason. I felt kind of bad for him. I guess everyone here has their own problems.
"I am the image of Death. Humans see me as this skeletal creature, so I become that creature." He said, "At one time I was a dragon with three heads. Everyone was afraid to come near me, except...your mother."
I could hear the sadness in his voice as he talked about my mother. What happened to her? Before I could ask he broke the tension in the room.
"Go with Nicholas to make sure he eats properly. When you come back I will answer all of your questions." He said without leaving room for me to argue. Yep, he's my father alright.
I walked back toward the entrance where Nicholas was standing. "Lead the way." I told Nicholas. He turned around, and started walking down a flight of stairs that lead into a living room.
The living room was covered in black and red decorations. As we passed through it, I couldn't help but feel at home. When we finally made it to the kitchen there were servants everywhere.
I was surprised that they were all teenagers and kids, and few adults. I cleared my throat and everyone looked at me. They started talking in hushed whispers until one yelled out.
"It's the Princess of the Darkest Places!" One of the little kids yelled out. Everyone suddenly stopped staring and bowed in respect.
Daughter of Heaven and Hell and Princess of the Darkest Places. "You can stand up now. I just wanted to get Nicholas some food." I said honestly. One familiar blond came out of a storage room.
"Adam?!" I exclaimed. What is he doing here?
"Sup, Princess. I was wondering when I would bump into you." He said. He lead us out of the kitchen and told them to make Nicholas a feast. I thought people who starved themselves were suppose to eat lightly. He is a demon though, so I guess it won't hurt him.
"What are you doing here? And why aren't you a child like everyone else?" I asked him curiously. Throne said time worked differently in the Underworld. Even though Adam is a vampire, he should be at least 7 or 8.
"I live here, and because I'm a mature adult. The time here focuses on your maturity instead of your body. So, basically your brain determines your age. It's very complicated to be honest." He explained.
Moments later the food was brought out for Nicholas. The servant bowed in respect before she left. Nicholas took off his knight helmet, and didn't expect him to look so young, or beautiful for that matter.
He had midnight black hair and piercing gray eyes. If I were to be honest him and Salem could be twins. They looked about the same age too!
"You're beautiful." I said without thinking. That meant I was calling Salem beautiful. I face palmed myself before I banged my head on the table.
"Princess, please don't injure yourself. I don't mind that you called me beautiful." Nicholas said trying to calm me down. It was not okay. If Salem ever found out I called his father beautiful all hell would break loose. Goddammit!
"I'm fine. You should eat." I said with my head lying on the table. I heard him moan in delight as he bit into his feast. God, that was hot. I really need to stop, this is so creepy. He has a wife and kids, and not to mention his son is an asshole. A very lucky asshole.
"Princess," He said, and I looked over at him, "would you like some?" He looked so concerned. I shook my head, because I couldn't trust my voice.
"I'm still here you know." Adam said breaking the awkward tension. I looked over at Adam who was pointing his thumb toward another room.
"Excuse us, Nicholas." I said getting out of my chair. Nicholas just nodded and continued to eat. I went to the door way, then Adam pulled me into a hallway.
"What's wrong with you?" I asked him. He looked nervous, but serious.
"I want to be your servant. No, I need to be your servant." He said with intensity. I thought asking my father questions was going to be my only challenge. I should have known with my luck.
"You k-know what that m-means for me r-right?" I asked him nervously. He nodded and then took a lock of my red, dyed hair. "I want to protect you if I can't be with you." He said, kissing my hair.
He can't be with me? What the hell is that suppose to mean? I was about to ask him, but the feel of his lips on mine stopped any question I could ever have.
