(Y/N) watched their tail sway in front of them, unintentionally mimicking one of those cat clocks you see in movies. They focused on their tail to drown out the screams of joy and whining from the children visiting the circus (Y/N) was forced to live in. (Y/N) sat with their back against the centre of the one wooden wall of their cage, their cage was so small it would make even a toddler claustrophobic.
Still following their tail with their eyes, (Y/N) started to get lost in thought. Thoughts on how pathetic it is that their only memory of their parents was the day they sold (Y/N) to the circus. People do anything for money, (Y/N) didn't blame them though, money is hard come by. (Y/N) wondered what their parents were up to now, did they think about (Y/N)? Did they even remember them? What if they had siblings? If so, were they sold too? All questions that swarmed in (Y/N)'s head daily. However, the biggest question that ate away at them was did they even love (Y/N)? The gentle glow of the sunset rested on (Y/N)'s face giving it an orange hue, their tail now sat neatly across their lap as they sat on their legs, it slightly twitched upwards every so often. Their (e/c) eyes however were still focused forward their only movement was their slow, relaxed blinking. Their ears pinned to their head as the gentle breeze kept their (h/c) out of their face. (Y/N) was dragged out of their thoughts by an obnoxious, high-pitched wail and the all too familiar sound of the bars to their cage rattling loudly.
"MUMMY! WHY ISN'T IT MOVING?" screamed a child who was glaring at the poor neko with frustrated tears welling in his eyes with his lip stuck out in an enraged pout. (Y/N)'s ear and tail fur now stood on end, the tip of their tail gently raising and falling in anger, ears now raised. (Y/N) suddenly shot their head to the side at a neck breaking pace and glared at the boy who disturbed them. The boys eyes widened along with his mother who now stood by his side as (Y/N) let out an intimidating hiss and bared their teeth at the pair, (Y/N)'s pupils were slits. Their hands that now had their claws exposed wrapped around the bars and inched their face closer to the boy. Shock plastered itself on the boys face as the mother tried to pull him away but failed because she to was too focused on the gut-wrenching feral animal that sat before them. The small crowd of people that were wandering around the circus were also in shock as they stared at the neko.
(Y/N) had a satisfied smirk on their face content on what they just caused, that was until they made eye contact with ringleader. Thomas. Thomas was leaning against a wooden pole that held up streamers and other decorations, a sinister, deadpan look on his face as he stared at the neko; who is at least half his age.
"Shit" (Y/N) muttered under their breath.
It was now 2 hours after the circus closed for the night, 3 hours after the incident, and (Y/N) now sat hugging their knees with their tail wrapped around them and their now bloodied ears pinned to their head. They sat in the corner of their cage, silently sobbing, cuts, bruises, and burns littered their body from the "consequence of scaring away customers" as Thomas put it. (Y/N) raised their head, noticing that the lights in the main tent were still on, which was strange because the lights went out 1 hour after closing. Distant conversation filled the nekos ears, they picked up what sounded like Thomas and two other voices, a young sounding boy and an adult man. They sounded like they were getting closer, the voices peaked the nekos interest.(Y/N) sat back on their legs and eyes focused on where the noise was coming from.
Around the corner came the trio, the young boy had blue hair, blue eyes...well eye because of his eye patch, he seemed rather small for his age and had a very stern expression he looked like a noble. The man on the other hand was a lot taller, he had black hair and a mix of brown and red eyes that reminded (Y/N) of the toffee apples that the circus sold, the man looked like a butler. Possibly the young boy's butler. (Y/N) made eye contact with the young boy and his face softened for a second he then winced as if he just remembered something horrible. The boy who looked around 12 to 14 simply walked forward ignoring the rambling of Thomas, the young boy was now close to the bars, accompanied by his butler.
"Don't worry about them my lord-" The boy interrupted Thomas by raising his hand to silence him. (Y/N) found this amusing, how can such a young boy have so much power?
"What is your name?" the boy said, his cold blue eye looking back at (Y/N)"
"(Y/N), what about yours?" (Y/N) questioned, The neko had a quick glance up at the butler who was staring straight at them, a chill went down the (H/C) haired nekos spine at the almost grimace the butler had on his face. Their eyes met with the blue-eyed boy once again.
"My name is Ciel Phantomhive I'm the queen's loyal guard dog" he said with a bit of pride. (Y/N) tilted their head and looked at Thomas for an answer for why an Earl was at the circus after hours. Thomas didn't speak however the Earl picked up on (Y/N)'s confusion.
"We're here investigating a murder" Ciel started, "as well as checking the animal's welfare" he said the last part while staring intently at (Y/N)'s injured ears, tail and body. (Y/N) flinched when they felt a hand on their ears, it was gentle but unnerving, they looked up to see it was the butler. (Y/N) slowly removed the hand from their head using both hands because, like Ciel, they were rather small for their age. The nekos skin was coarse and rough from the scars that littered their hands, it surprised the butler slightly "Sebastian leave them alone, we have work to do" Ciel said, so his name is Sebastian (y/n) thought. The butler frowned slightly making Ciel roll his eyes and walk off to another cage although he did glance over once in a while. (Y/N) pushed themselves back into the corner of the cage and started to drift off to sleep.
Until they were dragged by their leg out of their cage, eyes still tightly shut. (Y/N) could hear incoherent yelling, they attempted to open their eyes but drifted back to unconsciousness from shock and exhaustion. (y/n) was un sure if their life had changed for better or for worse. The neko hoped for the best, but oh boy did they have a big storm coming.
