"Well, as you know Miss Rivers is wanted by a foreign government for crimes she did not commit. After reviewing the body cam footage and reading through the notes from the mission, we are quite confident we can prove her innocence and push for retribution for her capture. We have the proper documentation, showing that she was there with permission from their government to investigate the group for crimes committed here in the states and that they failed to act when she went missing. However, when we attempted to contact the government, they were unaware of anyone showing up here looking for her. According to them, they sent no one representing them here. They have filed no such charges against her and do not know who those people were. We gave them the credential information we were given on their arrival and were told that the information belonged to agents that were found deceased in their homes that they were investigating. They did not update the files until today which explains why the information came back active when we ran it through the system prior. It is now believed that the 2 'agents' that arrived are from the group you rescued Miss Rivers from. We are supposed to detain them as long as possible until they can send actual agents to apprehend them here to deport back. We are not sure if they have been tipped off to us knowing who they really are, however they are supposed to be meeting with us tomorrow morning to get an update from us on where we are on their requests. These people have been smart thus far so we do not believe they will show. Surely they would know that their identities would be revealed when the bodies were found but we are hopeful that they are not expecting them to be found so quickly."
"So what does that mean for us right now?"
"It means you both will be going on lock down and will be moved to a secret location not listed on any of our databases. We can not run the risk that they have accessed any of our files. Until they are caught, we need you both protected. Pack what you will need, plan for worse case scenarios. You will be picked up at 2200 tonight. Supplies as far as blood nutrients and food will be there on your arrival. I apologize for this with you both having just gotten settled in there but this is the only way we can assure that you are both safe. Leave your phones in the house, new ones will be waiting for you on your arrival that are unlisted. I do not have to tell you to be careful on what you use them for, yes?"
"Affirmative sir. Pick up time 2200. Who are we expecting?"
"Agent Dirrick and Agent Kaine will be the ones picking you up. If anyone else shows up I want you to get out of there and call from a safe location with code word red rum. Let's hope you do not need to use it but if you do we will go from there. Do you understand?"
"Affirmative."
"Commander signing off."
He hung up the phone and peered at the tense face Tisha had on display. He felt horrid about putting her through so much in such a short amount of time. He stood up and led her from the office, shutting the door with a soft click as he led her towards his room to pack whatever he could think of that they would need. Their duffels were still downstairs from their arrival the night before so he focused on toiletries, extra shorts and t-shirts. He stuffed everything into a book bag as she sat on the bed staring at the wall blankly as if she were in another place. He set the bag down on the floor near the bed as he gently lifted her face to him.
"What is the matter?"
"You have suffered so much lately because of me. You ended up bonding to me and now you are being forced from your own home because of me. How can you even stand to look at me?"
"You are the only light I have had in centuries in a world that was dark. I would walk through the very pits of hell before I gave you up. This is minor compared to how I lived without you. We have all that we need packed up so lets go finish that movie until it's time to leave. There is no point in worrying about something we can not change."
He grabbed the bag, hoisting it onto his shoulder as he held out his hand for her to grab. He led her back downstairs, depositing the bags together before pulling her back to the couch to finish the movie they had paused. As time went by, he kept his eye on his driveway waiting for the agents to show up to get them. When it neared the time of pick up, alarms went off indicating someone pulling in. He peered out from behind the curtain, noting the vehicle was not one he recognized. The 2 individuals that stepped out appeared to be agents, dressed in suits and badges flashing in the light of his porch. His senses went on alert as he noted that the 2 that stepped into the glow of the light were not the agents that were supposed to be there to pick them up. He grabbed the bags and Tisha's hand, running to the back of the house where his secret exit was located. As the secret door clicked shut, he heard the front door bang open as if they slammed it open. He kept moving down the tunnel he had built in case of emergencies, praying they did not find the lever to open it until he made it to the end with Tisha.
He ran down the corridor with her in tow. He could see the light at the end indicating he was almost to his emergency stash. He heard the pounding of foot steps echoing down the hall as he threw open the door and slamming it shut behind them. He slammed down the metal bar and continued on to the vehicle he had stashed in the hidden space. He tossed the bags in the back, ushering her to the passenger door before jumping in and turning the key he left in the ignition for this kind of emergency. He gunned it out of the hidden enclosure, spinning tires in the mud as he fish tailed into the roadway. His mind raced as they sped away from his home that would surely be ransacked in his absence. How had they known about the pick up and where were the agents that were supposed to be there? He flipped the passenger visor down, grabbing the phone he had stashed there. He auto dialed the commander on instinct, the feeling of dread filling his chest. What the hell was going on now?
