Tisha woke feeling a warmth enveloped around her. Slowly, she opened her eyes to take in her surroundings. Last she remembered, she had been laying in the tub with Eric letting the jets relax her as the stress had started to crush her. She shifted around, momentarily startled at the smile that had dawned on his face in his sleep. She ran her fingers lightly over his mouth, taking in the relaxed child like smile she had not seen on his face before. He slept soundly, no hint of his usual nightmares marking his now child like innocence. She peered at the alarm clock, noting that she had slept for a long time. Her stomach growled with protest at the realization that she had not eaten prior to falling asleep. She wiggled her way out of bed, noting the quiet whimper he let out as she slipped her pillow into his searching hands.
She slipped a pair of shorts on before padding her way down to his kitchen to inspect what there was to make for breakfast. Their bags still sat where they had been dropped the day prior. She dug through her bag in search of her Syntho powder. It had been awhile since she had supplemented her food with the synthetic blood nutrients, noting to herself that it could be why she had slept for so long. She dug around the kitchen for ingredients to make breakfast. She found some bananas and strawberries for a smoothie. She dug around for a blender, coming up short. If she was going to be here for any length of time, he would have to get her a blender. She set to work mashing the bananas and strawberries in a bowl until they were mixed together with as smooth of a texture as she could get by hand. She grabbed two glasses, putting some vanilla yogurt into the bottoms of the cups with a serving of Syntho powder on top. She had half the mix to each cup, stirring until they were blended together into a thick mix. She added a few splashes of strawberry banana juice to each glass, mixing until everything was blended together. She found a frying pan in one of the cupboards to make eggs and hand formed sausage patties. She dug around as the sausage cooked, searching for bread and a toaster. Surely, the man had to own at least a toaster. She almost jumped for joy when she located an almost brand new looking toaster to make toast to go with breakfast.
She loaded the fruits of her labor onto a tray she found to take upstairs. She carefully balanced everything as she walked back to the room she had left Eric sleeping in. When she made it back into the room, setting the tray on the desk he had, she noted he was awake and staring at her with an accusatory look plastered on his face. She eyed him speculatively, wondering what she had done wrong to earn such a look from him. She waited patiently for him to speak, refusing to speak first with the look on his face.
"I woke up and you were gone. I started to panic until I smelled the sausage cooking. I was planning to come downstairs but did not want to interrupt if you were wanting alone time."
"It is ok. Why were you looking at me that way?"
"What way?"
"Like you were accusing me of something."
"I was. Of you leaving me alone up here but that is done with now. What have you brought that smells good?"
"Sausage patties, eggs, toast and strawberry banana smoothies. The smoothies might not be the right consistency without having a blender to use but I did my best."
"I am sure they are good. What would you like to do today?"
"As far as what? I can't leave the house or I'll get nabbed and you don't have much here."
"Well, I have a computer and access to the internet. I can turn on a movie and we can lounge until our update or we can do something else. There is a few different possibilities. It is up to you, I do not care as long as I am with you."
"A movie day sounds nice after what happened. You seem to be in a good mood, like you feel lighter?"
"I am feeling lighter. We will finish our breakfast and I will help clean up. Then we can get settled in and watch some movies. Check in isn't until 1800 so we can get a couple movies in before then."
"Why are you in a lighter mood? You didn't have any nightmares either."
"I had a visit from my wife in my dreams. It lifted a weight from me that I did not know I even carried. Even if what I dreamt of what just a dream, it helped me to settle that part of my past as if I was finally able to allow them to pass into the next life after all these centuries. Anyway, lets go get settled in."
With that, he stood to help clear their stuff. She hadn't even realized they had finished eating so quickly. True to his word, he helped clean everything up before getting his computer set up to watch movies. They curled up together as they watched movies, taking breaks to eat and use the bathroom. Time seemed to fly by when he paused the movie they were in the middle of to stand up and stretch. He held his hand out to her as she realized it was time for their check in. They went to the office holding hands. He sat down and dug out the password for the secure call from its hiding place as they waited for the phone to ring. Her nerves frayed as each tick of the clock seemed to get louder and louder until the shrill ring of the phone caused her to jump. Eric answered the phone on speaker, breaking open the little plastic envelope for the password inside.
"Password omega twelve."
"Confirmed omega twelve. Hello commander, I trust that there is news?"
"Yes, whether it is good or not remains to be seen but news none the less."
"Well, let's hear it then."
