Chapter 5 - Defining Discovery

Setting:

Louis's front door and kitchen, then back on the main road towards Ericson High School and then the school's parking lot at the end of the chapter (shit is that a spoiler?)

Monday, November 2nd 2020, 12:41 A.M.

Louis stood shaking in the doorway with a gaping mouth and his eyes wide open with surprise and fear. There laid his parents right in front of him, but not in the position he was expecting.

His father wore a striped bath robe and towered over his wife as he held her night gown collar with his right hand, his left hand raised and balled into a fist ready to land another punch on her slightly wrinkled face. His face was calmly furious, fire in his eyes as veins popped in his forehead. His mother was kneeling on the floor beneath his father, with both hands raised in surrender as blood trickled from her face to her clothes and the ground around them. She was immensely frightened but it seemed like she's been through this before. Something about the aura in the air was off to Louis.

Besides, he did just catch his dad red-handed, beating up his mom under a single light in their massive kitchen. It was like Louis intruded on a crime being committed, which, in a sense, was basically true. He slowly but surely grew heated at the sight of his parents brawling in the middle of the night, when otherwise they'd be sleeping peacefully together in their bedroom. Louis felt his stomach churn as knots tied up inside him.

He needed answers.

Louis's parents froze at the sound of the front door opening and simultaneously turned their heads to face Louis at the front door, who was struggling to find words. His dad quickly let go of his wife's collar and raised his fist, immediately fixing his angry gaze onto Louis. "There you are, you son of a bitch! You think you could sneak out without our knowledge? On a school night too! Just to hang out with that absolutely despicable girlfriend of yours, how displeasing! All she does is distract you from school and sports! God, she is such a disgusting little wh-"

"Shut the fuck up! Don't you EVER talk about Clementine like that you fucking asshole! You have no fucking right to talk about her like that. She's my night and day and I'd do anything for her! What the fuck were you doing anyway?! Why the fuck were you beating up mom?!"

Even when Louis was down in the worst of times, he always found a way to praise his brunette girlfriend. That goes to show how much he cares about her and how much he is willing to sacrifice just to make her happy, even if it means giving up his family pride and social image. Fuck our social profile he always thought. I'd much rather be with her every second of the day instead of being with this shitty stuck up family! It wasn't until now when Louis realized why his relationship with his family, especially his father, was so disoriented.

As much as he wanted to deny it, it was all because of Clementine.

Louis always wanted to be with Clem, which took time away from school and sports, which hurt his chances at attending a top-tier college, which infuriated his father, which angered Louis. That process repeated itself every time Clem was brought up to his parents. It was an endless game of dominoes that only caused pain and suffering on Louis's end. But he didn't care, as long as Clem was happy, he was happy too.

Louis stood in the doorway with rage and anger filling his veins. His head throbbed with aching pain as his scrunched face read disgust and madness. His dreads laid all over his sweltering head as he tightly balled up his sweating fists and tensed the muscles in his arms, making them slightly reveal themselves through his sweater sleeves. His head tilted low and his posture was slightly slumped down as he glared at his parents, his father especially. Louis stood scarily aggressive before his parents, almost like he was about to murder someone. His breaths were long and heavy, full of pure hatred towards the situation at hand.
