Rowan still couldn't get over the fact that Aelin was Celaena Sardothien. He also couldn't believe that he had lied to Aelin. I mean, he wouldn't consider it lying, just concealing the truth. He was ordered to kill Nehemia Ytger by Maeve. He hadn't known why and hadn't questioned it. Now he was. Maybe he would go to Maeve about it. Hed knew that he may have very well signed his death wish, but he had to know.
What is this? Why did he feel guilty? He hasn't felt guilty about anything except the fact that he was too late to save Lyria. Ugh, he so hated feelings sometimes. Practice ended thirty minutes ago and he saw Aelin walking into the Oakwald forest that was near their College.
He decided to follow her since she could very well be doing something totally reckless and crazy. She stopped in the middle of a clearing that was covered with dead leaves. She then put her hands around something invisible and started waltzing. It was like she was waltzing with some kind of phantom that only she could see.
Oh, gods, what is this girl doing? Stupid, but kinda cute. Wait a minute, cute...? He had never thought of Aelin as attractive but with the last dreg of sunlight in her hair, the faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips, the twirling around in the skirt he gave her, she looked attractive. He was so distracted with her that he didn't notice that she had heard him and was staring at him.
"What you looking at Rowan?" Her smile was wider when she realized that he was being mesmerized by her.
He walked over to her and placed one of his hands on her hip. He grabbed her other hand and started twirling her. Instead of having to dance with someone imaginary, she could dance with him. They spinning around the clearing and then the snow started falling. Nothing as pretty as the first snow of December, but still decent. Clumps of snow were falling into Aelin's golden hair and she looked like a princess out of a storybook. The last of the sunlight and the moonlight started seeping into the sky.
They continued dancing until it was dark and they could barely see each other's face in the moonlight. Aelin's hand crept from his shoulder to his tattooed cheek, the cheek that he had dedicated to Lyria. It was in some language that wasn't used anymore. He had found it in some old textbook and it looked cool.
Rowan's hand drifted to her cheeks as he cupped them with his hands. Her blue-ringed gold eyes staring intently into his green ones. Rowan knew in this heart that he liked her since he really started to get to know her, but a tiny piece of his heart made him feel like a traitor to Lyria, his first love. He ignored that part because that was years ago and he had to get over Lyria somehow.
Rowan wasn't sure if it was a good idea, but he leaned down and gently pressed his lips against her own. Her lips were warm and tasted like that cherry lip balm he had seen her use. Rowan closed his eyes as he started easing into this, but she pulled away from him. Oh no. She probably wasn't over her boyfriend Sam.
Oh, Gods, he was stupid. How could he assume that she was ready for this? This was all his fault. Aelin stumbled back and reached for her bag. She found it and started running the way she had come from a few hours previous. He ran after her, he couldn't see her very well but he could hear her tripping and stumbling over loose roots and things. He caught up to her and was running alongside her.
"I-I'm sorry. It was a mistake. I don't know what came over me. I'm so sorry errr, I didn't mean it." Rowan stuttered like a bumbling idiot.
"Then what was that?" she stopped and turned to look at him.
"I'm sorry, you looked pretty in the moonlight, then you put your hand on my cheek and I thought that it meant that you were going to be okay if I kissed you. I misread things, I'm sorry, you're probably not over Sam." Rowan was already making a million excuses to give her in his head when her finger was pressed against his lips, silencing him.
