"Aelin? Did you do that to the house?"
Aelin turned around to see Dorian and Chaol behind her, Chaol shoving Dorian behind him. Gods, it was like he was Dorian's personal bodyguard. Everyone untangled their arms from Aelin, and she looked up at her friend's faces.
Chaol face looked drained of color as if he had seen a ghost. Dorian stood there, face full of what looked like understanding. There was the wailing of sirens in the background.
"We have to go...now. The police are going to catch us." Rowan said, loud enough for Dorian and Chaol to hear.
Aelin looked up at her friends again, and Chaol scowled down at her in disgust. Good thing she didn't give a fuck what Chaol thought. She was more worried about Dorian. She didn't spend as much time with Dorian as she used to last year, but they were still friends and book buddies. You can't go back after being book buddies.
Dorian tried walking over to them, but Chaol grabbed him by the elbow and pulled him behind himself. "I don't need a bodyguard, Chaol."
"You know what she is. She's a monster" he seethed. He acted as if he hadn't dated this 'monster'. She was fed up with him, she was going to give him a piece of her mind. She stood up, but then the siren wailed louder, she could see police cars at the end of the street.
Dorian shoved Chaol and walked over to her, "Let's go."
"If you think you're bringing me to the police, then you have another thing coming," she said, raising her fists while her friends and family started retreating from the burning house.
"No, you're my friend. Let's go, we have to hide you." Dorian muttered, he waved over her family, "C'mon, we have to fit you all in my car, and soon." The police cars were three houses down. It felt like they were all going in slow motion. It was unbearable.
Dorian walked across the street and into his black GMC Yukon XL. There weren't enough seats for everyone so Lysandra perched herself on Aedion's lap, who tugged her against himself. Aelin crawled over to Rowan and settled in his lap. He blushed but snaked his arms around her waist.
They were about to drive off when a police officer knocked on the window. He had no choice but to stop the car and roll the window down. Everyone was holding their breaths and Dorian put on one of his fake 'Prince Charming' smiles, "Hi officer."
His badge read Officer Ironwood. "I happened to see you fleeing from the burning house. You don't happen to know who did it?" He pointed back to the house, that was already being doused in water.
"No officer," he responded, "We were the ones who reported it. Me and my friend were walking back from the mall." he lied. Aelin never thought that she would see the day where Dorian straight-up lied to an adult, he lied to a police officer. Maybe, she was rubbing off on his goody-two-shoes ass.
"Mhm...If you were coming from the mall then why is your car parked all the way over here?" he asked. He already had his silver handcuffs in his hands, as if waiting for them to break.
"The parking lot was crowded and we couldn't find a parking spot until this here one." he lied straight through his teeth, it was absolutely immaculate.
He peered into the car full of people, "Why so many people?"
It took a minute for Dorian to think of an excuse, he didn't have one. The officer smiled, thinking he had caught them red handed for the cause of the fire.
What Aelin didn't expect was it was Chaol who intervened, "We were preparing our clothes for the afterparty of our football playoffs."
The officer's mood changed almost immediately, he smiled, "Are you on the football team?"
