Back info: Adam recommends her for the grapple hook to his father. And Roland agreed with that part but needed to see if Charlotte was like anything like her father in the P-wars and she is an expected sniper and needs to get too tall buildings quickly. (Her father was part of the task force Roland lead. And the best sniper and spotter Roland had. The only man that could match him with Long-gun was her father) and she has the Scouter like thing Roland got for her it would help her judge the wind and distance and even timing. The gloves were from her father. Gabriel Diaz made for her father when they were all part of the same unit. Roland had like the guilt when he sees her because her father took a blast meant for him and died. She does know that her father would not return and when Roland tell her she would understand and will tell Roland to not blame himself and she would move forward from this and try to continue her father's legacy.
