*Hey just a reminder, your relationship with Katsuki in this fic is platonic. you two are just very close. enjoy :)*
The whole ride home was filled with silence, not even the smallest growl escaping from Bakugou. Dinner that night was just the same, Masura being highly aware of the situation due to the frantic texts from Mitsuki. The only words spoken across the table were from you to Masura, asking about work, and him responding with a kind hearted, "It was alright." a soft smile gracing his face. He tried asking Katsuki about his school day, however all Katsuki did was roll his eyes and hunch his shoulders forward more. Once Bakugou had finished his meal, he put his plate into the sink and then made his way to his room. His steps weren't loud or thundering like they usually are before he starts homework during the night. That was the first major sign that told you he wasn't doing as 'alright' as he tried to put on.
After watch Katsuki sulk up the stairs, you turned your attention back to your guardians sitting across from you. Mitsuki gave a long dragged out sigh before saying, "I think this is the first time he's gotten through dinner without yelling at any of us." She knit her eyebrows together as if she was concentrating, focusing on the silence that so effortlessly surrounded them all. Masura held the same expression, if anything the creases around his eyes and forehead deepened with every passing second.
After you had finished pushing around the remainder of your food, you picked up your plate and started to do the dishes. This was the only chore Mitsuki allowed for you to take part in besides from cleaning your room and helping Katsuki clean your guys' shared bathroom. You hummed quietly while rinsing the used dishes before moving them to the wash rack. Occasionally, Mitsuki will join your humming while she wipes down the table and counters and takes out the trash. Most kids your age hated cleaning, naturally, You however, it was therapeutic and calming, like a come down from the past days events. It put you at ease before you had to power through homework.
Once you were finished with cleaning up, you headed to your room and sprawled out all your assignments onto your desk. You checked the time and the atmosphere became slightly awkward. The time read 6:30 PM, and most days you didn't start homework till 8, especially on Tuesdays like today. Tuesdays were when you and Katsuki would train outside from 4 to 7, right through dinner. You guys eat quickly then shower, then around 7:30 or 8 is when you both would head to your rooms and work until an ungodly hour of the night. Katsuki was usually done with his work by 8:30, he's asleep by 8:45. You envied how quickly he got through all his work, and how his ass was at the top of the class. You on the other hand wouldn't be done with work until around 12:30, math was absolutely exasperating for you. Luckily, Tuesdays were the days you had the least amount of homework, which is probably how Katsuki went through it so fast.
You seated yourself at your desk as you read over a rubric for an essay you had been assigned yesterday. Writing essays didn't take you more than 30 minutes so you breezed through that first assignment easily, moving into your history packet. You had a math exam tomorrow, so you redid your assignment that had been assigned that night around three different times to ensure you knew the material. Eventually you made your way through every subject and leaned back in your chair as you looked at the mess of textbooks and papers on your desk. You glanced at your phone laying on the edge and saw the time, 11:24. Damn, five hours you've been working, but at least you're done and can finally start getting ready for bed. You picked out your clothes to wear to bed and started to walk down the hall to yours and Katsuki's bathroom. Before getting there, you stopped at the small closet right by Katsuki's room to grab a new towel. In the midst of reaching above to grab a towel, you heard a faint noise come from katsuki's room. You brought the towel down and tucked in under your arm and walked a little further, stopping right in front of Katsuki's door. You leaned forward a bit more, then you heard the sound once more. At first it was just some heavy breathing, so your first thought was maybe he was working out. But, then you remembered it was almost midnight and Bakugou valued his sleep above everything. You pressed your ear to the door gently, the heavy breathing continued, but then something changed the entire feel and perspective of the situation. Through the heaving breathing, the hum of the AC, and the quiet sounds of the late night, you heard a broken sob escape through the door. You froze, everything in your body to turn and walk away, but also wanting to barge in and see if Katsuki was really crying. You listened longer, standing there hearing his sniffles and occasional silent cries rip through his throat. If you were standing with your ear to his door, you wouldn't have been able to hear a single thing. You wondered, had Katsuki always had to cry silently? This much control must have taken practice. Almost becoming consumed, you heard footsteps from the inside. They slowly got louder, and closer. Before you could even risk getting caught you ran to the bathroom, pushing down all your concerns for katsuki. Once inside, you turned on the shower to drown out the tension that hung so heavily in the air.
