Chapter 7 - Behind the door

Thomas opens the trap and jumps to the ground.
- "All clear." He says.
Aris jumps and I do too. Aris closes the trap, in order to make it seem like no one ever came down there. Thomas looks around to completely make sure that no one saw us, before swiping the key. He swipes it. It worked and the doors open. We all slowly get inside. It is very dark and there are these white suits. It looks like people protect themselves. Thomas turns to the right and his jaw drops to the ground. I turn as well.
- "Holy shit." I say.
There are these weird tubes that have these animals or whatever in them. It looks like they are experimenting on something.
- "Guys." Says Aris. "There's a door." He points to the end of the hallway.
We walk towards them and they open. We enter. Oh my god.
- "What the hell?" Says Thomas.
Kids are hanging everywhere and they all have tubes inside of them. Aris was right. No one ever leaves this place. We all look around and I am beyond disgusted by the fact that people are capable of doing something like this to kids. It is truly terrifying to see this and my heart shatters seeing all of these kids. I could be one of them in the future. It seems as if they are pulling out this liquid or something from them. I walk next to Thomas.
- "What the hell do you think they are doing to them?" I ask him.
- "I don't know, but I definitely don't think it's something good."
We turn around and I notice someone that looks like Teresa. Thomas notices too.
- "Teresa?" Says Thomas, nervously.
We quickly walk towards her to make sure if it's really her. He pulls the girl's hair back. It's not her. Thank god. Aris walks next to us and I see the fear on his face. I think he knows her.
- "It's Rachel." Says Aris. "They took her the first night. I told her it was going to be ok."
He seems broken. Suddenly, I hear some foot steps and the doors open. We all hide as quickly as possible. Janson and this other man walks in.
- "You sure this cant wait?" Asks Janson.
- "She was very specific, sir." Says the man. "She wanted to speak with you personally."
- "As if I don't have enough to deal with."
- "Just bear with me. I'm getting some interference from the storm."
I look at them and take a step closer.
- "Come on. It's good enough. Make the connection."
They stop walking and are standing up front of a mirror. Suddenly an image is shown. It's Ava Paige. She's alive. She really is alive.
- "Good evening, Doctor Paige. Lovely to see you again." Says Janson.
She is sitting at a desk looking at a document. Thomas looks at me. I mouth to him 'she's alive?' and he nods.
- "Although I admit I want expecting to hear from you quite so soon." Says Janson.
I look at them in shock. They lied to us. This was all part of their plan.
- "Change of plans Janson." Says Ava. "I'll be arriving a little sooner than expected. First thing tomorrow."
She gets up.
- "Oh. We'll be delighted to have you. I think you'll be pleased with the progress we've made."
Janson shows her these results, but I can't quite see them.
- "As you can see, early results have been extremely promising."
She looks at them.
- "Whatever it is you've been doing to them in there, it's working."
She seems disappointed.
- "Not well enough." She says.
This was all part of their plan. I knew it.
- "I just received board approval." She says. "I want all the remaining subjects sedated and prepped for harvest by the time I arrive."
Oh no. That doesn't sound good.
- "Doctor Paige, we are going as fast as we can. We are still running tests."
- "Try something faster. Until I can guarantee their security, this is the best plan."
- "Ma'am security is my job. We're in 24 hour lockdown here. I am assuring you the assets are secure."
- "Have you found the Right Arm?"
Right Arm? What is that.
- "Not yet." Says Janson. "We tracked as them as far as the mountains."
- "So they are still out there!"
I think they are talking of this type of resistance or something.
- "And they've already hit two of our installations." Says Ava. "They want these kids as badly as we do and I cannot. I cannot afford another loss."
We all look at each confused.
- "Not know when I am so close to a cure."
- "Speaking of a loss, why is she still alive. You told me we wouldn't have to deal with her anymore after the maze, and now she is already causing issues." Says Janson.
- "Y/n is one of our best subjects."
I stop breathing. The guys look at me. She is talking about me.
- "You promised me she would be dead."
- "I told you she might die in there. I never promised. Besides, like I said, she is one of the strongest subjects of all and it might be good to test on her. I know she is immune."
- "I don't think you heard me Doctor Paige. She is already causing issues and it's because of her that you made a lost in the past. We need to kill her immediately."
- "NO. Absolutely not." She slams her hands on her desk. "She remains alive. Besides, she doesn't remember anything and therefore won't do anything."
- "And what if she does?"
- "Janson. She won't. We made sure of it and even took extra precautions."
- "But if she ever finds out, who knows what else she will do to us. She almost destroyed us in the past. She can do it again. If she knows the truth, we are over."
I take a step back. What the hell did I do? What the heck is the truth? All of these questions flood my head. I wonder why are they talking about me. Is this particular thing I did have to do with me ending up in the maze? Is this why I made a deal with them?
- "Janson. You're really telling me you are scared of a teenager? If you're not up to the task, I will find someone who is." Says Ava.
- "That won't be necessary. Might I suggest we start with the most recent arrivals, including Y/n."
Oh my god. They are going to do this to us. We're going to end up like the kids in here.
- "Just get it done. I don't want them to feel any pain."
- "They won't feel a thing."
He turns around and walks away with a grin on his face. The other man stops the call. They leave the room and the guys and I are panting.
- "We need to leave. NOW." I say.
- "Come on." Says Aris.
We all run out and Aris jumps to open the trap of the vent. We all help each other go inside as quick as possible to get back to the others. We need to leave now, or else we will all become like the rest of the kids, but most importantly I'll die. Janson definitely has something against me and I have a feeling he will do anything to get me killed. We all crawl as quickly as possible. I want to talk to Thomas about what Janson said about me, but I don't think now is the time. We finally get to the room.
- "Thomas!" Says Minho.
We both quickly get out.
- "We gotta go. We gotta go right now." Says Thomas.
- "What?" Says Winstons.
- "You heard him, we gotta leave NOW." I say.
Thomas and I run to the door.
- "What the hell are you guys talking about?" Says Minho.
- "What do you mean, 'we gotta go?'" Says Newt.
- "They're coming. Come on. We gotta go." Says Thomas.
I look out the window of the door but I can't see anything. Thomas grabs a sheet.
- "They're coming for us."
He runs back to the door and I help him tie it up around the door handle.
- "Paige, she's still alive." I say.
- "What happened in there?" Asks Newt.
- "Aris what happened!" Says Fry.
I turn around and Aris is standing there panting. The images of what I just saw and heard flood my head and I bet Thomas and Aris are seeing these images too.
- "Guys can you just calm down and talk to us." Says Newt.
- "She's still alive." Says Thomas.
-"Who's She? Teresa?"
- "Ava!" Thomas and I both say, still tying the sheet around the door.
- "Ava?" Asks Newt. "Will you both just turn around and talk to us?"
- "ITS WICKED!" We both yell, turning around to them.
They all look at us in shock. We finish tying the thing.
- "It's still WICKED." I say. "It's always been WICKED."
Thomas walks away. I look out the window. I see some figures coming from afar.
- "THOMAS!!" I yell. "THEYRE COMING WE GOTTA LEAVE NOW."
Thomas grabs a mattress and runs to the door. We both lean on it.
- "Thomas. Y/n." Says Newt.
We both turn around to look at him, with a fear on our faces. I will never forget what I just saw.
- "What did you see?"
- "Now is not the time Newt. We gotta go!" I say.
I walk away and go the entrance of the vent.
- "Come on! Everyone inside! NOW!!" I say.
Thomas enters first and everyone follows. I go in last to make sure everyone remains together.
