MAX's P.O.V.
I could feel her fear. I could feel how much she's afraid. Like a little kitten crawling under the grass and hiding behind the rocks when a stranger bends over to pet it. Just this time, the stranger didn't want to caress her, he wanted to hurt her. To push her over the edge and to rip out her heart from her chest. Her fear was in air. Her rapid breathing and the loud beating of her heart. I could do nothing but to embrace her. Embrace her with my hands, protect her from outer world. Save her from the stranger. Even if the stranger would rip out my heart instead. She didn't deserve to die. She is a child in a woman's body. A child that dreams, that loves, that cares and that doesn't hate. A child that wants peace and happiness. A child like the child I carry deep in my soul. Like that scared nine year old boy looking for his parents and wondering why everyone just ignores him. I hold my tears.
"Don't worry Cat. They're going away. See they're going away."- I whispered in her ear.
She raised her head. Her eyes shined. Not because of tears, but because of their brittleness.
"Why does this have to be so hard? Why does this have to be so complicated? So..."- she was devastated.
"So screwed up?"- I asked.
She laughed - "Yes... So screwed up."
"It's going to be fine."- I said.
"How do you know?"- she looked at me with her deer eyes.
"I just know."- I smiled.
"Do you want to check out the building?"- I threw a look around the hall we were in.
"I guess..."- she answered.
We got up and took a walk along the long corridor we were in. This is an old clinic. I remember people said it's been closed for fifty years. The corners were full of cobwebs and the floors were cowered with thick layers of dust. It seems that no one walked here for a long time.
All of a sudden Cat embraced herself and fell on the floor. She followed it with a scream.
"Are you okay?!"- I crouched next to her.
"No...."- she said.
I looked down. There was blood on her tee shirt.
"Shit!"- I cursed.
"What is it?!"- she panicked.
"Your stitches broke again."- I pressed her stomach.
I looked around. Nothing but empty walls that were white sometime in past. Well, maybe there are some rooms down the hall. I have to check that. There might be something helpful, after all this used to be a hospital.
"Just press it hard and wait. I'll be back in a second."- I said and ran down the hall.
"The second passed..."- I could hear her from the distance.
Her wound is bleeding and she can still make jokes.
Finally I found three rooms. Two had doors and one was wide open. I entered it. There was a surgery table covered with stains of old blood in the middle of the room. Looks like this used to be a surgery room. I looked around. There were some old surgery tools on a tray, also covered in old blood. I picked up the cleanest glove, which was so clean at all, and started searching around the tray for the needle. Fortunately I found it. I think I need to disinfect it. I looked around and found an unopened bottle of disinfection alcohol. I'm not a doctor, but I think I'm pretty good at it. The last things I need are a towel or paper tissues and thread. After a couple of minutes I managed to find that too.
When I got back to the place where I left Cat I could see that her wound was bleeding seriously. It covered her jeans. I started cleaning the wound.
"You have some serious issues with these war wounds."- I said while wiping off the blood.
"Well... I had only one in my life."- she smiled.
"You'll be fine."- I smiled at her.
I took care about the wound. Again. I just hope this time it won't go wrong.
"Third time's the charm."- I told her.
"I really hope so."- this time she was serious.
After walking around the building for some period of time, we heard sobbing. So we stopped. It was in the entrance. We entered there and saw a woman in a dirty, white dress sitting on the floor and crying. She's thirty-something and has long golden hair. I couldn't see her eyes until she raised her head.
"Kasey?"- Cat asked curiously.
The woman looked at her and then with thrill ran to Cat and hugged her tightly.
"Cat! Oh dear, Cat!"- she shouted.
Then she saw me and the expression of her face changed. I could see the hate in her eyes. She grabbed Cat's hands.
"He! He! That's all his fault! It's all their fault! They're killing us!"- she started telling her.
"No, Kasey. He's a friend."- Cat looked at her with sorrow in her eyes.
"No! Don't trust him! Don't trust him! They... They must've taken Drew! I can't find him! I can't find him!"- she fell on floor and starter breathing rapidly like she was about to give a birth.
"Kasey, I'm telling you the truth. He's okay. He's...."- Cat looked at me -"He's a friend."
"No, you can't trust them!"- the woman grabbed her hands and started crying again.
"He's not one of them. He's not one of those who hurt us. The citizens from Caelum are not the ones who hurt us. They never knew for us."- she tried to bring reason to her.
"But... How am I going to find Drew?"- I could see she's helpless.
"Look, Max and I are going to help. We'll tell the others the truth. I'm sure they'll take our side. Then they can fight, but they won't win. This is going to end. And then we'll all live here a happy life. My mom, Trev and I. Lucy and her aunt Paula. Amy and James. Harry and Daniel. Old Manfred and Jake. You and Drew. Everything will be fine. I... I promise."- Cat told her.
"You do?"- Kasey looked at her hopefully.
"I do."- Cat smiled.
"Um... Excuse me but I feel a little neglected."- I coughed.
"Kasey, this is Max."- Cat introduced me.
"Will he help us finding Drew?"- Kasey looked at her.
"Yes, I will."- I said.
