Alice pov

The ball.

I was standing with Charlie at the edge of the dance floor. Sam and his sister Lucy are here, I have made eye contact with him once. It will be hard to not flirt with Sam this evening, but I must stay true to Charlie and I 's deal. We are strictly her on business, as much as I wanted to run to Sam and take him away from his sister, I could not. I must refrain from all of my... urges.

"You ready to dance?" Charlie asks me as he puts his hand out for me to take.

I nodded and took his hand, he led me out to the dance floor and we stood face to face. He placed his hand gently on my back and the other took my right hand. I placed my left hand on his shoulder, his shoulder was higher than I expected, but it will do. I swallowed my spit and we waited for the music to begin. This felt very wrong. Dancing with Charlie Alton, if... when mother finds out she will be very furious. The music began and then Charlie and I started to dance along with many others on the dance floor. I stared into his eyes and his into mine. We must make people question our feelings for each other, and I must make Sam Oliver very, very jealous.

As we danced I remembered back to the conversation Kathryn and I had only moment ago. Charlie had gone to take to Mr Eddington, and Kathryn expressed her well worries about me.

"Ali, do you see what you are doing right?" She asked me quickly, her hand was grasping on to my wrist.

"I do Kathryn, and no one can stop me."

"Being seen her with Mr Alton is the worst idea you have come up with." She was not stopping her argument, "Your father hates him and everything that has to do with him, his family his title, his money. Are you sure this is only to get Sam back or is it to rebel against your parents?"

I sighed and shook my head, "You know nothing Kathryn. I am here to help my family, not to rebel against them. I love them. I would never purposely come to social event with Charles Alton if I didn't know what I was doing."

"Ali, I don't care about your view about Charlie being here with you. I am worried that your family will not take this news lightly. I am worried they will cut you out of their life for good." She paused and sighed, "plus I can already see this thing between you and-" She stopped, that is when Charlie walked up to us and told me Sam had arrived.

"I am sorry Kathryn, but you will have to tell me at home. If you will be coming back home." I spoke foolishly and then left with Charlie to the dance floor

Now we are here, on the dance floor. Charlie is smirking ear to ear and I smile back to him. "You look like a fool right now." I told him.

"Well you look flawless right now." He replied back to me.

I never liked his flirting or complements, "don't try to flatter me." I replied with a laugh. We went quiet again, "is Mr. Oliver looking?" I asked.

Charlie glanced over to where Sam had been earlier, "Yes, he looks angry." He looked back to me and told me, "I think we should go greet them after this dance, maybe have a few drinks with them?"

"That sounds wonderful Charlie." I smiled kindly and ever so timidly. I needed to make sure I put on an act for everyone here, make them truly believe Charlie and I were friends. Which we are not.

The music finished and Charlie and bowed to each other. I thanked him for the dance and he kissed my hand, and I blushed. I blushed? I don't blush for Charles Alton, I blush for Sam Oliver. I don't usually even blush for a normal man on a normal day. Charlie shouldn't make my cheeks go red and my face go all fuzzy. He should make my blood boil and make me want nothing to do with him.
