Alice POV
I was out on the dance floor again, not sure way I was thought. Charlie had let me have as many drinks as I wanted. I had never had so many glasses of champagne in my life, I feel like I am flouting right now. Now you would think I would be on the dance floor with Charlie right now, but turns out I am not. I actually met this really nice gentleman, his name is Mr. Brown. He is older than me, and had no intentions of marrying me. He just wanted to dance, although he keeps telling me how beautiful I am, and asks me why I have no married yet. He also thinks it is very odd that my mother gave me a choice on finishing school.
"Mr. Brown I don't see why I am woman shouldn't have a choice on finishing school." I replied to him, flashing my bright smile.
"Yes, I agree but then how will the woman learn to take care of the house and the children. How will she learn how to behave in certain situations, and learn how to keep her husband in order." He argued back to me.
"You see, I think a woman can learn that on her own. I certainly have, well in my own way I have. My mother also taught me all I need to know. I know how to take care of children, and how to behave but sometimes I don't like to behave, I think behaving is boring. I would rather have a fun and extraordinary life."
"How will you manage to find a husband if you won't behave properly in situations like these. Where you are dancing, you must know the right things to say to a man, you can't scared them away with your opinions and ideas."
"I haven't scared you away Mr. Brown." I replied bluntly to him, clearly he is on the governments side of women's rights, he and my mother would get along nicely.
Mr. Brown sighed, I was a little tipsy and he knew that. I get stubborn after having a few drinks. "Your father was always so opinionated just like you, but I still so no resemblance in the two of you. He was always for a strong economy and he could care less about women."
"That is where you are wrong, my father cares much for the roll of women in society, he is just scared to voice those opinions because of what a big upbringing he has." I replied steadily back.
"Then why I am not seeing you on the front line of your families legacy and business?"
He really had to bring that up? "Mr. Brown, my father has told me he wants me to help but right now they are trying to keep me safe. My mother wants me married and out of the house, my father has always been the one controlling me, she also takes control of my father." The dance ended I bowed down to Mr. Brown, "Now if you will excuse me I must go find my date."
I walked off that dance floor and right to Charlie. He had a smirk on his face. I laughed, "why do you look so happy." I slurred.
"Because I could tell how drunk you are just from watching you dance. You were so stubborn and you danced horribly." Charlie mocked.
"I am not drunk, I am simply just living my life." I grabbed another champagne glass from on the treys the waiters were carrying. "Plus, that man was a bore. All he did was criticize me for my opinions on women's rights and finishing school."
"Oh no you brought up those topics?" Charlie asked as if it was a bad thing, I nodded and sipped my drink, "You will never get married if you keep talking politics."
"I don't need to get married, I have Sam anyway, I don't need to look at any other suitors." I complained, "plus Mr. Brown was not a suitor, to old."
I walked away from Charlie, and I felt as if the whole room was spinning. My head felt heavy and my feet felt as if they could not work. Maybe I was drunk, mother would not approve of my state right now. In fact she would probably drag me out of this vary room and yell at me. I stopped in my tracks and then blinked my eyes hardly and slowly. The room was bright, and I could feel my eyes drawing tired. Right as I was about to fall, I felt someone catch me. I turned my head thinking I would see Charlie, but instead I saw Mr. Brown. Mr. Brown with his dark black mustache and small bald spot on his head. His bushy eyebrows and winkled nose, he was ugly, not at all handsome.
