Liam's P.O.V:
By the time I got into my office, I was exhausted. I had to sit through a meeting about company issues, new deals, and collaborations. I sighed, thinking about my life. How things changed drastically in my life.
Two months ago, when I was busy dealing with issues in my life and running my own business; a chain of hotels across L.A, I got a call from my father. I was astonished since we were not on speaking terms. When we met, he told me about his decision to hand over Smiths Industries to me. To say I was shocked would be an understatement.
My father and I don't see eye to eye since we have some unresolved issues. So, when he said I need to take over the company, I was red with anger. I was having a hard time dealing with things in my life and he knew it very well, yet, he persuaded me. If it wasn't for my mother, I wouldn't have accepted it. I still don't know the reason behind this sudden decision. Since the day he resigned, I haven't seen him or heard from him again.
A knock at the door got me out of my thoughts.
"Come in."
Opening the door, Lily, my secretary, walked inside. Since the day I started working here, She has been helping me to adjust.
"You look exhausted, sir." She said walking towards my desk.
"It has been the most exhausting meeting I've ever attended. They were hellbent on finding faults in everything I do."
"Sorry to hear that. But, you still need to attend two more meetings, sir."
"I can't attend any more meetings for the day." I said loosening my tie.
"I wish I could do something. The meetings are already fixed. You have to attend at any cost. These are very important clients for our company. We can't lose them." Lily said.
"Fine. Let me take a break." I sighed.
We heard a knock at the door. "Come in". Opening the door, Ethan walked inside, looking all gloomy.
"Mr.Parker, Is everything alright?" asked Lily.
Ethan Parker, a childhood friend of mine as well as the COO of our company. He's helped me a lot to learn the ropes here. Since the day I joined the company, my uncle has been trying to prove I was a wrong choice. He expected the company to be his after dad's retirement, but my father had other plans. Even though I don't know anything about textiles, I am not going to back off and let this company go into the wrong hands as it was started by my mother. I would have gone insane if it wasn't for Ethan's help.
He rolled his eyes and walked towards my desk, ignoring her question. He never liked Lily. He said she can't be trusted. I don't think so, since she has been helping me with everything in the company.
"Well, what happened? You look as if a truck ran on your cat." I asked him as soon as he sat in front of me.
"We need to talk." he said.
"We are talking, aren't we?"
"We need to talk business and alone." he said, side-eyeing Lily who stood in the room listening to our exchange.
"I will take my leave, sir." She excused herself and went outside.
"Why do you hate her so much?" I asked him.
"Why do you like her?"
"I don't LIKE her. She is like a friend to me. She has been helping me with a lot of things." I answered honestly. "Now you answer my question. Why do you hate her?"
"I don't HATE her. It's just, I don't trust her and I suggest you don't either." He stated.
"I have never seen her do something to lose my trust and she has always been nice." I pointed.
"You can't trust everyone." He sighed. "I hope your trust don't get you any trouble."
"Let's leave the topic. So, what business were you talking about?"
"About the meeting."
"Right, well, how did it go?". Something about his expression told me I wouldn't like the answer but, I hoped for the best.
"Well, it was a total disaster." he said sighing.
"What do you mean by that? " I asked.
"Well, for starters, sending me to the meeting which you should be attending was a total failure. I told you that your plan of sending me there, charming my way to get us the deal would fail." I was slightly shocked. We are running short of options with the condition our company is in so, I sent Ethan because I knew the CEO of the company was a woman and he got charms. He got looks that could make any woman fall for him. He is a likable person. So I was sure of getting this deal.
"What happened at the meeting?"
