(Chapter Art made by yours truly, this is the surprise. yeh)

Note to self, if you EVER get a chance to race against Katie, don't. just, don't do it. She is such a dirty cheater, it isn't funny. She knows that she has the advantage seeing as she's grown up in this house and I just got here. Doesn't mean I was planning on loosing to her, but still.

As we sprinted down the stairs, I got ahead. I jumped down five of the stairs and winced on impact. Thankfully, I wasn't an old man and my bones didn't instantly crumble.

I rushed towards the hallway on the right side of the staircase. I heard Katie swear behind me, which I knew meant I had gone the right way. I ran down the long hallway, and I heard Katie closing in. I laughed as I was about to enter the dinning room, knowing that I had won.

That's when it happened. The rug got pulled out from underneath me. Literally.

I had just enough time to let out a string of curse words before I hit the ground with a loud thunk. Katie hurdled over me and landed gracefully in the dinning room. She stuck her tongue out at me and I couldn't help but think of how adorable she was.

She didn't get to gloat long before her dad rushed into the dining room holding a ladle like a sword.

"Katie! What happened? Oh my god Travis!"

He rushed over to me and instantly helped me up. I still was getting used to how tall he was, towering over me. He checked over me for any injures and came to the conclusion I was fine, even though I'd insisted it at LEAST twenty times.

Mr. Gardener frowned.

"Katie, please. your boyfriend JUST got here. We haven't even gotten the chance to properly talk yet. Please don't kill him yet."

Katie sighed and nodded her head. That's when Conner and Miranda showed up, perfectly unscathed.

"I should have warned you Travis, Katie plays extremely dirty."

"Thanks for the heads up." I grumbled.

Mr. Gardener then ushered us into the dining room, saying we could sit wherever we please. I, for one, sat right next to Katie. I was across from Conner and right next to Mr. Gardener. I didn't understand why Katie told me we should switch places until her dad started talking.

Before I get into THAT mess, I would like to dedicate like three paragraphs to the food Mr. Gardener prepared. I mentioned he was holding a ladle, so you probably thought it was soup or stew.

Well I'm here to tell you guys you are WRONG.

It was chili.

The best motherfucking chili I'd ever had.

And corn muffins.

It smelled magnificent, not just of chili powder and beef, but of home and family. It had been so long since I had felt this. Camp Half-Blood could only fill so much of my life.

Anyway, back to Katie's dad.

"Dig in kids!"

We ate in silence for the first five minutes before Mr. Gardener started asking rapid fire questions.

"How did you two meet?"

I swallowed. "Back when I first arrived at Camp, Katie was on guard duty. A little while after, she and I became friends."

I was about to go into more detail when Mr. Gardener shot another question at me.

"How old were you two when you met?"
