Ch. 30

The next two months went by quicker than Ricky or Nini could've imagined. Nini was successful with being on bed rest. Originally, they weren't gonna tell the kids what happened the night of the Grammys (granted they did leave out some details), but Charlotte had kept asking why her mommy always stayed in bed or on the couch. The pair decided to sit the kids on the couch one night a few weeks after the awards and told them that "mommy and the baby had to go for an overnight check-up at the hospital." The twins were worried about their baby sister but their parents had assured them that she was okay.

Nini was in her last week of pregnancy and was currently laying on the couch staring blankly at the ceiling when her husband walked in chuckling. "Baby, what are you doing?" Nini groaned. "Richard Bowen I want this Babygirl OUT of me! My back is killing me and I'm just over it!" She groaned, sitting up on the couch. Ricky gave her a sympathetic smile as he went to go sit behind her, gently massaging her back. "I know, darling. Hopefully she'll be here in a couple days." Nini rolled her eyes at this. "It's easy for you to say when you're not the one who has to push a watermelon out of a donut hole!"

"What?"

Nini was about to give another snarky response when 2 crazy kids and a dog sprinted into the living room. "Mommy! Mommy! When is Cassie gonna be here?!" Charlotte asked for the hundredth time that week. They knew she was due within the week and they just couldn't wait. Nini was thrilled that they were so excited to see her, though. "Honey, she'll be here in a few days, hopefully. She's not ready to come out just yet." Cassie gave a hard kick to Nini's stomach in response and Nini pulled her daughter over to her so she could feel her. Connor and Ricky followed suit. "Do you guys feel that?" Nini asked them. "Does she not like you, mommy? Is that why she's kicking you?" Connor asked, innocently.

"No, Con. She's rotating herself so she can finally come see you and your sister." Nini told the kids and Ricky smiled, speaking up. "I know for a fact that she can't wait to meet you both." He said, pulling Charlotte into his lap and kissing her on the head. "Are you guys hungry for dinner?" Ricky asked after a few minutes. The kids and Nini nodded their head excitedly. "Alright, alright! Pasta sound good?" He asked, and they all nodded. "Can I help, Daddy?" Connor asked. Ricky nodded and they made their way into the kitchen. Charlotte climbed onto her moms lap. "Mommy?" Charlotte asked, timidly. "What's up, baby?"

"What if Cassie doesn't like me? She probably won't like Connor, but what if she doesn't want me as a big sister?" She asked with a sad tone. Nini chuckled and pulled her daughter closer, hugging her and rocking them back and forth. "Char, I know for a fact that you will be the best big sister she could have ever asked for. And Connor will be the best big brother. She'll love you more than you'll ever even know." The Nini whispered, "she'll probably even like your brother!" She winked as she tickled the little girl. "Are you sure?" Charlotte asked after her giggles subsided. "I've never been more sure of anything in my life." Nini told her daughter, sincerely.

The rest of their night went smoothly, with them completing their nightly routine. They all sat down on the couch after dinner and watched Tangled on Disney+. They were about half way through the movie, when Nini stood up, gasping. Ricky shot up from his spot on the couch. "What?! What happened?" He panicked. "It's time!" Nini said, reaching out to grab his arm and steady herself? "What do you mean 'it's time!' She's not due for another week!" Nini glared at her husband and then turned to the kids. "Go put your shoes and coats on. Your sister decided she wants to meet you a few days early!" The twins eyes went wide as they sprinted to the flyer to do as their mother said. Luckily, Nini had the hospital bag already packed and Ricky had already put the pumpkin seat in the car. After helping Nini get her stuff on, they made their way to the car and made their way to the hospital, not before dropping the kids off at Kourt's place. The twins begged their parents to let them come to the hospital but they promised them that their aunt would bring them first thing in the morning. Ricky and Nini showed up to the hospital 20 minutes later and Nini was immediately rushed into a room. She was just about to get into the hospital bed when she was hit with a hard contraction. "Breathe through it, baby. You're doing great!" Ricky said as he helped her get into the bed. Dr. Quinn walked in about 15 minutes later. "Ah, how are my favorite patients doing? You ready to meet your little one?" Dr. Quinn asked, smiling at the parents. "I'm ready for you to get this damn baby out of me, Dr. Quinn!" Nini said as another contraction hit. Dr. Quinn chuckled. "I understand. Let's check you out and see where we're at, okay?" Ricky and Nini both nodded as the doctor began her examination. "Alright, hun it looks like you're about 4cm dilated, and you need to get to 10 before you can start pushing." Nini nodded, remembering that information from when she had the twins. Let's give you an epidural to help with the pain and then I'll check back in another hour or so. Sound like a plan?" She asked. "Sounds great, Dr. Quinn. We're not going anywhere." Ricky told her. Dr. Quinn smiled at the pair, before administering the epidural and walking out.

"I can't wait to meet our daughter..." Ricky whispered as he ran his hand over Nini's belly. Nini smiled softly at her husband. "Me either." She told him, kissing him lightly. "Try to get some sleep, love. We have a long road ahead of us." He whispered as Nini sighed and closed her eyes.

One hour turned into four as Nini wasn't progressing as quickly as the doctor had hoped. It it was 9:30pm now when Dr. Quinn reappeared for another exam. "Congratulations, Mrs. Bowen. It's time. Are you ready to meet your little girl?"

"Yes! My god, get this baby OUT OF ME!!!" Nini said, exasperatedly, making Ricky and Dr. Quinn chuckle. Nini was situated into the stirrups and listened as Dr. Quinn gave her instructions. "Alright Nini, I want you to to push as hard as you can and count to 15 then take a breath. Got it?" Nini nodded. "Okay, here we go! Give me a big push, Nini!" Nini did as she was told, screaming and squeezing Ricky's hand until it turned white. She did this three times. "FUCK YOU, RICHARD BOWEN! YOU ARE NEVER ALLOWED TO HAVE SEX WITH ME AGAIN! GOT IT?!" Nini screamed as she pushed for the fourth time. Ricky nodded his head silently as he pushed her hair back from her sweat forehead, giving her head a quick kiss. "I know, baby. We won't have sex anymore." He said in slight amusement, giving her a light smile. "Alright, Nini, she's crowning! Couple more big pushes. This time I want you to push as hard as you can and count to 30. Can you do that?" Dr. Quinn asked. Nini was starting to cry by this point. "I don't have a god damn choice!" She nodded. "You got this, baby. She's almost here! Let's meet Cassie!" Ricky motivated his wife. Nini screamed and pushed as hard and as loud as she could until she heard the melodic sound of her babies cries fill the room. She was sobbing as Cassie was immediately placed on Nini's bare chest. Ricky was crying now, too. "She's beautiful. Thank you. Thank you for giving me this gift." Ricky said, kissing his wife and staring at his daughter. "Would you like to cut the cord, dad?" Dr. Quinn asked Ricky, as she pulled Cassie away from Nini to get cleaned up and measured. He nodded enthusiastically and made his way over to the small table on the other side of the room. Nini watched as her husband cut the cord and walked back over to the bed with his daughters wrapped snuggly in a pink blanket.

"Do we have a name?" A nurse asked the new parents. Ricky and Nini looked at each other and smiled. "Cassandra Lynn Bowen." Nini told the nurse. "That's a beautiful name." She smiled.

LINE BREAK

Charlotte and Connor sprinted into the room at 7am the next day. They couldn't wait to meet their baby sister. Nini was currently breastfeeding when the twins busted into the room. Ricky immediately shushed them as they walked over to their mother. Nini waited until Cassie was done feeding before she allowed the twins to sit on the bed with her. They stared at the baby in awe. "She's perfect, mommy!" Charlotte whispered, running her small hand down Cassie's arm. Nini teared up at the sight. "She is. And so are all of you." Nini said. Her life was complete. She had the family and the life she's always dreamed of.

And it was all thanks to a cocky musician and a good, old fashioned slap.
